Flares like the seven!?

I know its been discussed before but, Is there anyone that makes or can make flares like the ones they use on the rx7's?
If a shop could make this i know they would make good money selling them, It does not seem too hard if the equipment is abailable and of course the skills.

I would give us some extra room for some nice 265's or even 275's!! That would awsome.

TSiAWD666 has the only cool flares I've seen on a 2g. They are custom however.

Yeah these don't exist for 2gs in anything beyond doing custom work.

There is only one body "kit" that has fender pieces that are compatible with the front and rear OEM 97-99 bumper covers but I forget the name. I think the front fenders are actual fiberglass replacements, but the rear are overlays requiring welding work underneath to actual make use of the increased fender room. The reason I didn't go with this kit was the rear fenders are molded so as to use another overlay for the doors, as well as replacement sideskirts. I simply thought the door overlay and sideskirts were butt ugly.

There are a few widebody kits with replacement fenders all around but require replacing the front and rear bumper covers with the ones in the kit. Only one I can recall for the 97-99 eclipse is the quwhees one, which man... looks like complete ass. The rest I think were for a 95-96 style which I don't have.

I looked at using Mavisky's solution of using some fender flares for a Datsun 240z. It worked great for him on a 1g. I bought them, and test fitted and mine didn't seem like they would simply bolt on to my 2g like they did for his 1g. I stopped by a body shop and the people there agreed I'd need lots of bondo work in order to get them to look flush with the metal. So I skipped out on these. Interestingly enough however Mavisky saw a 2g at the shootout with what looks like these fender flares and they look just like they're bolted on... so maybe a solution using these flares WILL work.

I don't know who this is, nor for sure if they're the same datsun 240z flares Mavisky and I have, but it doesn't look bad. I would have done it as I was looking for function more than form. Sure looks to be a bolt on solution (with the required cutting of the actual fender metal and re-welding of the unibody).

My solution ended up being having a fellow flare out my fenders, with a vette z06 as a stylistic guide. Ended up look pretty darned stock. Pics are in my gallery. I wish I could have an actual wide bumper, at least in the front, but I'm not going to dump that much money into having someone widen the stock one when I'll probably damage it in a track incident

The only caveat for any widebody solution on our cars is that the rear unibody is right there with the rear fender. That unibody metal has to be re-shaped/cut/re-welded in order to actually make room, rather than just the fender itself. This means any solution is going to require some metal work rather than just replacing/cutting of a fender.

I agree the rx-7's look great with their various widebody solutions. In fact for the longest time I was doing exaclty what you did, asking around various manufacturers if they had something similar for our cars to the ones for rx-7s, perhaps a universal flare or something. Mavisky's solution was the closest thing I came across.

If you're interested in trying those flares, I still have them in their original box sitting in my office at home. They're fiberglass fender flares for a Datsun 240z. You should be able to find a picture of them installed on Mavisky's car if you search.

So is your set up cut and welded or rolled and flared with no cutting and welding? Thanks

Cut, welded, coaxed into shape with bits of scrap metal thrown in, and bondo. Depends on which part of the fenders you're looking at. There is no way to just roll our fenders (not speaking of the lip in the rear fender well).

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but I do have all four fenders flared on my Eclipse, and I do also have all four of the Datsun flares (front and rear set).

ive heard people use chicken wire to mold the shape then make a mold and fiberglass

but ive only seen one car with that and its a 2g

You can do it with FG and foam and then make new front fenders for the front out of FG or CF. The problem is with the rear wheel wells being part of the body structure. I just "rolled" my fenders and run 245's which clear just fine. I believe it would be easier just to do it out of sheet metal.
