oooookay, little too much oil: 5 quarts

one of my friends had the oil changed in my GSX when i let him borrow it. i thought that was generous. well, today i check the oil level, and i find that the oil level on the dipstick is 3/4 inch above the top mark on the stick. come to find out, the shop put 5 quarts of oil in the engine. ive already driven the car many miles without incident, though i havnt floored it since the oil change. my concern is weather or not i should drain a little bit of oil out, or just let it be. will an extra quart running around inside the engine hurt something, or does the extra just sit in the bottom of the oil pan?

You will not be able to drain a little of the oil out without creating a mess. If you're really thrifty, find a really clean container and drain it out and pour 4 quarts of it back in.

Cases of overfilling can include the crank hitting the oil causing it to foam. Foamy oil gets pumped into the system. Foamy oil is air in oil. Air in oil can blow seals. It can potentially cause leaks in all the wrong places.

its over the top mark on the dipstick, but im reading on the forum that the 90's are supposed to take 5 quarts. i havnt noticed any little bubbles on the dipstick or in the oil since ive changed it. was there another vehicle that used a different length dipstck that would still fit in these cars? something isnt adding up here.

Either drain it yourself or bring it back the the shop he brought it to and they can suck it out through the dipstick tube.

5 quarts is only .5 quart over full, It will be fine.

alright, ive driven quite a bit since my last post, and ive got a quick question: would it be noticeable if the oil was foaming and not lubricating the engine well? or would the motor just seize up one day? i ask because i dont notice it driving any differently, and i dont see any little bubbles on the dipstick after driving anywhere. it appears im in the clear, but i wanted to make sure.

is the oil pressure being normal?

according to the stock oil pressure gauge, the pressure appears to be within the normal range.

its isn't bouncing around or anything? it acts like it normally does? It show the same oilpressure as it usually does? if so then your fine.

i overfilled my car once and drove it about 200 miles because i had no way to drain it... mines fine nothing was hurt but i did manage to drain out the extra without draining it all.. not that hard

If you wanna just drain a little, unscrew the oil filter just enough to let it drip out (into a pan). Tighten it up when you're done and that's it.

Its ok...for some weird odd reason my car take 6 quarts.... Its a brand new dipstick. I just fill it anyways.

if its synthetic (hopefully) then you wouldnt have to worry about frothing the oil anyway but as everyone else stated your fine
