ok i just bought a 96 eagle talon awd tsi. where should i go. its all stock,EVERYTHING, where does the blow off valve go?
i plan on getting a blow off valve, boost controller and turbo timer along with gauges right away. so whats next??
 
Apparently, it's not good for your vehicles performance to use a blow-off valve that releases into the atmosphere. Read this:

And as for the boost controller, make sure you have everything else working perfectly before increasing the boost. I hear DSM's can have serious problems when upping the psi by even just a couple of pounds. ARP head bolts are recommended.
 
first thing you should buy before ANYTHING is a boost guage, the stock one is just a guess by the computer and that is something you really need to watch when doing any mods
 
depends what you want to do and what your goals are man and if i was you i would not get a blow off value because when you get and after market one all you do is vent in to the atmosphere and you are loosing power to get that nice sound your best bet would to be go trough all of the frequently answered question that they have on this website and on vfaq.com
 
if your concerned about the stock BOV leaking replace it with a stock one off a 1G so it can be recirculated
 
yea if you get an aftermarket bov recirculate it. and definatley get a boost gauge before a boost controller.
 
Well since you are new to dsm's my advice to you is make sure a boost gauge is the first thing you buy before you mod ANYTHING... and do like i did and spend hours on here searching for answers to questions that you may have, because they were already probably asked and answered. There is a lot to know and you've come to the right place for the information... everybody here is a great help!
PS don't vent your BOV like Phempa said!

read read read and read some more until your brain hurts. I highly advise you to do ALL the maintenance stuff and don't assume the previous owner took good care of it. And it looks like you moved away from the honda scene so don't do the bodykit thing.
 
what im looking to do is just get simple bolt ons without having to play with the fuel management system. just wondering what has worked the best for all you guys. should i get a larger turbo and if so what kinda and what kind of tuning is required after that
 
Yanno how many guys like you we get asking the same question over and over? At least 10 a month. Read the Frequently Asked Questions, look through the tech articles, and search.
 
My advice would be to first....read....read.....read. Learn the car before you spend money on something that might not help you(venting the BOV without a proper ems).
 
alright thanks guys and with the body kit...i would rather put 800 or some odd dollars else where in my engine but thanks..i had two hondas and never a body kit!!! thanks again guys:thumb:

Better idea. Dont rice out your car and put a body kit on it. They look pretty sexy lowered about 1.5 inches and with a nice set of 17" rims. Then put the money into the motor where it belongs.
 
Do all the required maintenance. Timing belt,water pump, plugs, fuel filter. Throw in some new fluids too. Basically, make sure your ride can handle the mods you're going to throw at it. Boost/Vac Gauge, K&N intake, 2.5" or 3" exhaust would really open things up for starters.
 
i would get some nice rims, tires, brakes and a suspension before doing anything to the engine.. unless you plan on dumping a bunch of time effort and money into the engine/ecu all at once.. but thats just me


and stop hating on body kits this isnt a lame camaro site haha.. dsms can sport body kits or can be stock and look bad ass no matter what simply ### they are dsms

I agree, leak down and compression tests! Maintence, brakes, check the turbo!

First of all let me congratulate you for making the choice of aquiring a DSM you will see how fun they are and how fast they could be. I would trully recommend to check the engine first before performing any modifications, do a leak down test, check all hoses, belts, vacuum lines, oil, etc... Then ask yourself the magic question??? What i am aming for? How many Horsepower i want to get out of this baby? After you answer yourself that question and get an answer, you can start working on your car with what is the main goal you want to accomplish.
