i say spray a coat of the gloss black on now that looks really good man...

On my black car that still has the rustoleum on it, I was test fitting a turbo wing today and the damn thing took out a chunk of paint from off the deck lid...now I have to repaint faster than I wanted too.

Im going with a black base coat and a jade green pearl in the clear should be badass.

Anyways car looks good man let it bake in the sun and get really tough!

i might try that out on my eclipse turbo wing to see how it turns out...

I'm going to have to let it bake...thats where it sits until i get a job ROFL

thanks, i tried gloss (roll on) it didn't turn out to good...but im going to spray the turbo wing with like 2 coats and do a coat of gloss on top of that...just to experiment a little

i sprayed the gloss on a spare door with no prep, or cleaning and it layed nice and shiney and smooth. there was alittle dust in in though

Another thing is if you spray the gloss smooth and then wetsand with 2000 just to remove dust and stuff it should buff out then...but going from 600 to 800 to 1000 to 1500 to 2000 is just to much sanding.

So spray it, hit it with 2000 grit wet, let it bake a week and then buff it out with 2m rubbing compound and then some sort of finisher or glaze. it should look prefessioal based on all the internet results. If it wernt as easy as i found it to be to use auto paint I would still use the 50 dollar job.:thumb:

Guys I know this is a 50 dollar thread but I just wanted to post pics on my first "professional paint job" results Heres my cost list for this...

Compressor 15Gal 1.5-3Hp---------- 100 but Already Had it for air tools.
Paint and all additives from NAPA--- 290
Harbor freight paint gun-------------- 20
Total is -------------------------------- 410

I spent a total of probably 180 on the rustoleum stuff with rollers, then sand paper and the mineral spirits and then I bought the wagner to shoot it.

As for results....Im sorry to say there is no comparison. The automotive paint just coats better and has better results.

This is NAPA corssfire paint by the way. If anyone thinks they want to attemp this I can give everything I learned information wise to whoever wants it, I know it will be helpfull.

I have to re-clear the rest of the car du to being an amature and not putting enough on the first time, but the bumper and spoiler below came out just as I would want them to after learning the correct way to do it!

Looks like you need to make your own new thread called the "Harbor Frieight $410" paint job".This completely strays away from the method and cost but good job anyway!!!!!

here's my results with the $50 paint job...the roll on method sucked for me...and if u paint the car in a gloss color its hard to get a good shine...

but i went Semi gloss black...and it actually turned out pretty good...i used a Wagner Electric Gun, and a 50/50 acetone to paint mix

here's some pics:

I was going too. I am painting my Talon here soon, Im just getting the body work out of the way Im extending the fenders way out but keeping the rest of the body stock...it should look real good, but im new to it all and it will take some time. I was just going to go from beginning write up on my talon.

Also I do not think the wagner gun will be correct for the autopaint. There are specific directions on the Basecoat, clear and gun.

i just sat here for about 3 hours and read every single post, getting more and more interested in trying the roll on method. and to find out at the end of the BOOK that it dont work that great and is way too much work. i already have a gun and everything needed but auto paint cost alot more. so i figured this would be cheep.

what i ddint understand the whole time. why not just spray the rustolium paint out of a rattle can instead of rolling. and still use the same wet sand step? alot faster if you ask me.

So what this all boils down to is the 50 dollar method sucks and either spray it yourself or pay someone else to do it?

No, I think it is still just like it always was. If you have more time than money, the $50 paint job will get you by and can turn out pretty decent. If you have a little more money, there are better and faster ways to paint your car.

Yep spray it on with a gun, wet sand it when its dry with 2500, wait 2 weeks and buff it out with rubbing compound then a finish then a glaze.

its not hard, i did it for my first time a couple weeks ago and it turned out great. just buy a can of bondo from autozone for 10 bucks and follow directions. if you mess it up then sand it off and try again. make sure you have a DA or you will be sanding for hours. one thing to know is work as fast as you can ### once you put in the hardener it takes about 5 min to not be usable. i used 220 grit on a da and it worked good.

Hey bringing this back.....
I want the mix to be around 50/50?
Also does Wax compound help at all?
I will be painting her Bright White primer so the error is a little less than black.

Got my Baby up and running. Went around and snap some photos. Need to get a better Camera. Friend will whip up some WAY much better ones. If this doesn't get me Google Famous, I don't what will....On to the good stuff.

Before anybody asks, Yes. I know my Hood is popped, spacers are doing that.

so are you saying this was the $50 paintjob outcome.

By saying this in the title. I'm going to say yes. Also I wish you can see it but I put the HD DIY Front Lip on. Hell yeah, that shit works.:thumb:

Where do you get the paint? I'm looking to paint my car soon and I painting my car silver. There is a paint shop close by me and they gave my brother a price of 150 for paint for a 60's vw bug. I was just wondering if you get the paint at a normal paint store. The paint for the bug may be a 3 step but im not sure. Yours looks nice and professional. How many cars have you painted?

Well im done with the painting part of $50 paint job! Love it. My car looks so much better. Ill do it again with another car. I just have to wet sand and buff. Really the paint went on so smooth I can just leave like it is for a while. The bottom of the car is getting painted black once I get some stock side skirts.
