hello everyone. i have a question about an out-of-state car and me being military with indiana drivers license. if i purchased a 1g awd talon with mods, keep it registerd in my home state, would i have to smog it, or reregister in cali? i want to be able to drive this on the street with no hassles, but would it be exempt? or no?

No you would not have to register it. How ever the CA state law is you have 10 or 12 days to change your drivers license after you change adresses. PM Hiitman since he moved here from Colorado Springs and still has CO plates.

Actually since your real residence is in Indiana you have to register the car in Indiana and have a valid Indiana Drivers license. i know alot of people who keep there car registered in another state.

sweeet! that is good to go. im not going to switch my license, so im good to go eh?

Not trying to thread-jack here. tenn-gsx, what do you do in the army? I had a buddy in ait who had a 2g GSX that looks a lot like yours. He was from Ft. Campbell and was going to be stationed there, too. Just wondering, hadn't heard much from him at all, is that you Jeremy?

actually considering buying car in ohio from showdown...so im still golden...btw, thanks defiant!!!

they are going to be hawks about where i got teh car? it has to be hawaii? i dont care...if i get it i will just keep ohio plates or get indiana ones. that is stupid, it doesnt matter where i got teh car, im not registering it in cali...legislature..gotta love it!!!

Just make sure you don't need base tags or they will make you get a smog even if you are out of state plates. It's a regulation on the bases in california. I had to go through all of that and i'm military police, they gave me no hook-ups. I just went to Nevada to get my stickers.

so base stickers they make you have smog even out of state? what base are you at? the one out by ventura. how far from san diego? a while? i hope they dont make me do that out there...that is stupid...

California makes shitloads of money off the smog inspection program, even though the fires in the last month have puked up more crap into the air than all our cars.
The Feds and its military want to stay friends with California, and be able to keep using our dirt to park their soldiers on. They are fully aware that not only do we have the planet's 7th-ranking economy, but that we are also the only state whose flag says "REPUBLIC" on it. They don't want us kicking your asses out when we go rogue.

im stationed on coronado and drive two colorado licensed DSM's. because there are no smog reg's where the cars are licensed im 100% legal out here to drive them, however, because im in the military i can't get base decals since neither of the cars pass CA smog. save yourself a trip to nevada and just get temp base passes every 3 months... :rocks:
the reason why that works is because you need nothing but license, registration, and insurance to get on base because technically your "in the process" of getting it smogged. ive been doing it for 3 years and still haven't had a prob...

on another note...
one of my dsm's i bought out here in CA but was still able to license it in CO since thats my state of residency and there are no emissions laws so i can do what i want :shhh:. it wasn't that hard to do either... just call your states DMV and they'll just fax you a form to fill out about the vehicle. after that its a quick trip down to the SDPD and have an officer verify the VIN #'s and your licensed.

I used to be stationed in cali..

As long as your military you can do just about anything..

I had a FL license CA plate.
Then i had a CA lisense CA plate
I had CA lisense and FL plates

No iam at FL/FL.

You can just keep your out of state plate. your better off due to smog and its the best way to go.

Yea right now im doing the whole temp pass every 3 months too! Crazy thing is that my car has washington plates. So all i'm going to do is go to pass and id in NAS Fallon when i go there on this next det and bring my papers then get the decals there.

Yea and i'm stationed in ventura.
