Symborski shifter kit = vibration?

I'm considering getting the symborski shifter kit to tighten up my shifter a little bit.

One question/concern I'd like to address with folks with experience with the kit before I decide to or not... does adding the kit increase the amount of vibration felt in teh shifter?

I would think so since there is no longer the rubber bushings insulating things.

If, so, then I'll probably go with urethane bushings instead... just looking for opinions!

having solid shifter bushings are going to have increased vibration over a chunk of rubber, but the amount of vibration should be next to nothing. They were designed to increase shifter feel.

It isn't like you are running 4 solid motor mounts -- there is minimal vibration with a shifter bushing kit.

Whats the worst that is going to happen? $15-30 spent and 20 minutes of your time?

I just installed them on my car a couple months ago and you almost have to try to feel any extra vibration, so in other words the vibration is not bad at all.

I would definitely recommend them to anyone, but I don't know what you mean by "tightening up your shifter"? It doesn't do anything to the throw or sloppiness in the gates, it just helps it be a more positive engagement, mainly when trying for fast shifts. For example, when shifting fast I used to not be able to get it into third because of the stock bushing flex, causing it to grind. With the solid bushings I can shift as fast as I want and not worry about it.
 
More solid feeling shifts is what I was expecting and I figured wouldn't hurt. I'm also planning on replacing the bushings at the tranny end of the cables sometime in teh near future.

What I'm ultimatrely after is trying to reduce the wiggle in the shifter from the 1/8 to 1/4 inch it has in all gears. Any other suggestions?
 
The Symborski kit includes a replacement metal sleeve for the shifter pivot. This significantly reduces the "wiggle" or slop that you are talking about. Like the others said, the increase in vibrations is not even noticeable.
 
I have the Symborski kit, a B&M short shifter, and the linkage end bearing mod. I don't really notice any vibration in the shifter, other than the normal engine vibrations. I think the Symborski kit and the B&M were some of the best mods I've done to date.
 
Hey snowborder714, do you know if that link is good for a 2g awd talon as well? Mine definitely does the movement when I let off the gas, but my transmission/transfer case looks different.

Sorry for hijacking, but I really want to look into this...

If your shifter is moving when you get on and off the gas, you might want to pull the side cover off the trans and check to make sure the nut on the output shaft is tight. The nut coming loose is usually the culprit when you start getting shifter movement on and off the gas.

It does do that a very small amount (maybe 1/8 of an inch), but it does that in every gear, and it has since I bought the car. DO you think that warrants the work to check the output shaft nut?

It's more a side to side wiggle that I'm trying to reduce, as well as the feeling that after I get the car in gear, it feels like I could keep pushing (and holding) the shift lever for another 1/4 of an inch or more like it is stretching some rubber component.
 
It is a really simple job to check the output shaft nut. I would do it for my own peace of mind. The feeling of stretching will go away with the upgrade to solid bushings under the shifter base and solid bushings/bearings under the hood. What you are feeling is the rubber giving. You just can't imagine how much of a difference the bushings make. ABSOLUTELY worth the time and money spent! My shifter has no play any more, and shifting is so much more precise and quick.
 
I would reccomend checking your motor mounts for damage/freeplay before reccomending you to pull the 5th gear cover and check the end shaft nuts to see if they are loose; you would be having other problems if that was the case.

Replace the bushings first, then inspect your four motor/transmission mounts, and your shift linkage bushings at the connection to the transmission linkage -- these rubber bushings are garbage and loosen up when they wear apart.
 
I ordered the symborski shifter kit this morning... can't wait to see what difference it makes!
 
You won't be sorry. For the low price they cost, they are one of the most noticeably beneficial modifications you'll ever do.
 
Installed the kit tonight. No extra vibration noticed at all!

It does seem a bit louder or "clunkier" moving the shifter to the left in the neutral band (to make sure it is actually in neutral) than it did stock though...

Also... the shifer still feels pretty loose in each gear, despite how tight I tightened the nut ont eh bolt with with the new symborski shifter pivot bushing. I think I'm going to check the mount on the passenger side of the engine soon, as well as look into getting the underhood brass bearing set.

Otherwise, I can definitely feel a difference at the end of each gear with this mod. No more soft throw ends... the shifter moves until it is in gear, and then simply stops solid... I like it.
 
I'm planning on changing those bearings sometime in the next month or so...
