Hey guys, I recently got my transmission rebuilt (like 2 months ago) and everything was going just great until the other day. The problem is with my 4th gear. When I shift into 4th it goes in just great and doesn't pop out or anything. The problem with it is when I take my foot off the gas and I put my hand on the shift knob, it feels like the are gears grinding. It is not a noisy grinding at all...I can only notice it because I put my hand on the shifter. However, when I accelerate again, the grinding is gone and it seems just fine. None of the other gears do this. Is this a problem with the rebuilt...should I take it back to them and have them fix it, or is this something that my driving could have caused? I don't abuse it at all when I drive so I am kind of confused as to what is doing this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'd say roughly 6 months, tops.
Could have been there forever though. I use 4th the least. I'm in 4th for like 10seconds everyday, just long enough to get to fifth, never traveling in 4th. Unless I was trying to save gas through town or something, which is exactly how I noticed it was vibrating in the first place.

Did yours just all of a sudden happen, or did you notice over the last 2 months?

Talk to the shop that rebuilt your tranny. Just ask questions, as I've noticed, shops tend to get defensive very quickly.

I just noticed it all of the sudden but it could have been getting worse over the last two months. Third gear is starting to vibrate under acceleration now but not under deceleration (and only between 20-50% throttle). Could this have something to do with the clutch master cylinder fluid or is something else more likely the culprit?

Do you feel or hear a 'womp womp' noise from the driveshaft too? Things that could cause that issue:

Lighter than stock flywheel
Aftermarket clutch with a more rigid hub/springs
Removed balance shafts
Stroker
Bad crank pulley

All of these things could cause more torsional whip and engine noise/harmonics to go through the trans and make it feel a little strange. It's hard to say though. My car does the same thing, but it has everything working against it as far as noise through the drivetrain goes. I would definitely ask the builder of the trans though to see what they think just in case.

There is no noise associated with it whatsoever. It is more that I can feel a little vibration in the shifter and can see it move about 1/2" up or down.

Pull the side cover and make sure the 2 36mm nuts are still tight.

I thought those bolts only helped if there was shifter movement in 5th gear?
