im getting a 98 GSX and i want a nice loud BOV, but from what i see is that i cant use a regular BOV b/c i vents to the atmosphere causing it to run rich, so i would have to use a recirculating BOV which from what i hear isnt very loud, so i was wondering if there was anyway to remove the MAF so i could use a standard BOV

oh n if no one minds could someone tell me what all the letters mean on the BOV liek the Turbo XS Type H-RFL? and stuff like that

Id really appreciate it.

have to run a Gmmaf in blow through if you want to vent.

Or get an HKS SSQV. Lots of people have success running that bov without recirculating it as it does not leak at idle. IT is loud too.......you ricer. LOL...sorry couldnt resist. :D

But seriously...that bov should fit the bill....and if it doesnt there is a recirc kit for it and it will still be loud.

yea it says N/T for now casue my new car isnt here yet n i dont wanan go posting up sayin im boosted if im not, im trying to get the basic info on what i can and need to do so i know what to get when the car arrives from the UK, n also im not a ricer :nono:, you jus gotta love the sound of the BOV thats all :thumb:

Thanks for all the help so far i really appreciate it

LOL @ removing the MAF so that your vented BOV doesn't screw up the reading on the MAF.

But yes, you need either a MAFT setup or speed density if you want to vent. Do not do it on the stock MAF. I don't care if it "runs ok." If you want your car to run right you need accurate air metering. You can't do that if you lose a large volume of air every time you shift. Not with the stock MAS anyway.

+1, I run an SSQV and I can vent to the atmosphere without any problems! And that's with no GM MAFT :D!
14.6 @ idle, 11.2 @ wot on my LC-1, no problems with idle whatsoever 800-900 steady!
And my SSQV w/ recirc kit is quiet as hell! LOL It takes out the piece that makes it "whistle" and replaces it with just a tube to flow straight into the intake, quiet as can be!

And if I'm not mistaken if you go GM MAFT then you don't need a new MAS because the MAFT itself is what meters the air, hence why you can vent without any ill effects.. So if you want to vent to the atmosphere you can just get the GM MAF + the MAF Translator and you should be good to go! :thumb:

RFL literally stands for "Really F#$%!@ Loud" :tease:

Turbo XS - WRX, STi, EVO SRT4, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Turbo, Turbocharged
Note: that particular one in the link is for a Subie.

so pretty much if i want a vented BOV i need to get a MAFT and a new MAS?

Yes. ECUPlus has a built in MAFT, but they are no longer made. One can also get MAFT PRO or AEM EMS and run a speed density setup (which ends up being more expensive).

going to speed density is going to be a little pricey i would think.

Just run and HKS ssqv or get a gm maf and translator

Not pricey at all.. like 60-80$ for the sensors that you need..
As long as you have a program to monitor- like we use DSMAP for it. The program is free, and you can use Moates Ostrich for tuning.

For 2Gs? I thought DSMAP was a 1G only thing.

why not?

why not?

Because the SAFC still uses the stock MAS which is before the BOV. When you do a blow through setup, the MAF that you place has to be AFTER the BOV in the interooler pipe. And no, you cannot place a 2G MAS on the intercooler pipe because you'll break it trying to push boost through it.
