I am getting ready to install the 2.4 and wanted to run a bigger cam. I was looking for thoughts and ideas on cam choice for my application. My profile is current. Car is basicly a weekend car, runs Turbo Blue, limited track, and limited dyno. Looking for good power/torque.
 
fp3's are a nice choice. Where are you looking to make the most power?
 
I opted for the comp 101400 cams. I went with them due to the RPM range. After reading some articles the Comp cams appear to be just like the FP cams. I have the Intake cam degreed in, I am still working on degreeing the exhaust cam. I hope the Manley/Crower (spring/retainer) combo I have is ok.

On a side note, the real reason for putting the 2.4 in, I had to open the trans. One of the bolts holding the spool in place came out. Knock-on-wood the gear clusters look fine. The bolt did crack the center section of the transmission case. Luckily I was near the house. Jon at TRE sent me the revised jam pads for the spool.
 
I'm changed my cam setup from BC272s to the FP 4Rs after talking with FP on the phone when i ordered the HTA88. let me know how you like them on the 2.4
 
Are 4R's and 101400's the same cam or different? I'm trying to decide on a cam for my 2.1 build. Been debating heavily on the 101400's or bc280's or the FP's which are comp cams too but not sure where they come in at compared to the comp's

no the fp4r's and fp5r's are their brand new cams. and the 101400's are the same as the fp4's which were designed around the 100mm crank.

FPCam3
Dual valve springs recommended. The first camshaft designed with the 100mm stroke crankshaft in mind. Often referred to as the "square lobe", No valve to piston interference issues, and no retainer to guide interference issues. This is a drop in cam in the sense that no issues with geometry or interference exist. This cam produces very broad power bands in stroker engines, easily consuming all available airflow from 800cfm turbochargers.

FPCam3x
Dual valve springs required. This camshaft has the highest valve acceleration that is allowable with our dual valve springs. The FPCam3x has more lift and faster ramps than the FPCam3. UPDATE: NOW IN STOCK 11/15/05.

FPCam4
Dual valve springs recommended. This camshaft is a small step up from the FPCam3 grind. FPCam4 is actually a less aggressive and smaller camshaft than the FPCam3x, so much for a consistent numbering scheme.

I run BC 280s on my 2.4L. The best thing for you to do is determine how far you want to go and match cam profile to supporting modifications. Do you have any port work done to the head?

My 2 cents would be a set of 272s or FP3s if you are looking for a considerable power gain.
 
I have the 2.4 running with the Comp 101400s. I would like to hear from people who run this cam what kind of vac. are you getting at idle. Also did you degree your cams in?
 
I see around 11hg of Vacuum with my 2.4L BC 280's with no degree. The BC280's hurt the low end (possibly because they are not degreed) but really compliment top end.

~47lbs/min at 7K on <20psi. G60, stock intake manifold, FP race ex. mani.


I'll get a new log with my new mods here soon.
 
On my 2.4L with BC 280s, (no degree'ing) @ 750 rpm idle, I see about 9 hg. But then again, my idle surges ever so slightly. I should say it "averages at about 9, and surges from 8 to 11 ever so slightly. However, I still need getting some more fine tuning from dsmlink.
