PCV valve is located on the back-passenger side of the valve cover. I think it's a 14mm. Unscrew it from the VC and pull it off the hose. Try blowing through it from the hose side. If you can blow anything (*anything*) through it, it's leaking. It's a check-valve, so it's supposed to let air go from the VC to the IM under vaccuum, but it's supposed to seal when the IM sees boost. If it's leaking (the wrong way), you boost your crankcase.

If you need to replace it, pick up an OEM one from a Mitsu dealership for $8 and change. Don't get one from Autozone/Carquest/etc. as they will not seal under boost even brand new.

If your compression is good, I'd figure out what's causing the smoke before you potentially waste a lot of time and money pulling the head.

Is the smoke truly white or does it have a bit of a blue color to it? White is coolant, blue-white is oil. Does it smoke all the time or only under load?
