At least thats what it looked like.

The location: Transition from the 101 W to the 405 S. the big 270 degree loop.....

The device: it was next to a van and essentually had some sensors (think 2 silver pringles cans attached to some wires)on a stand that was bout a foot off of the ground pointing 90 degrees to the road. to the right of it a few feet off was what appeard to be a camera pointing about 30 degrees on a higher standing tripod.

Anyway, just thought it was interesting to see this around here.

There is one where the 15 and the 60 meet. If you are taking the 15 North, and exit to the 60 west they have had this set up there also.

yeah saw one of those where the 22 and the 405 meet.

If i had to cross the beam i would shut my car off.

found this on something describing what could be a similar device.

Multicomponent remote sensing of vehicle exhaust emissions by dispersive IR and

From everyones response, they seem to be popping up in quite a few places.
Has anyone been able to get any pics of these or have any information on them? When I went by the same location this weekend it wasn't there(as expected as there is less traffic).

I was able to get a shot of it today when heading to work. Not the clearest but it shows the setup. It's in the same location as last indicated.

^^^ on the way to school passed it today at the 110 at the Carson St. on ramp. The one i saw had a bigger trailer tho, turned off my car just when i passed it. ROFL

They have those in Dallas... and have for I would say close to six months that I know of. I am fairly certain it's made to take pictures of your plates if you're not within spec of their emissions.

Another good one... the pick n pull junk yards now have a big sign up front at the counter saying that any engine block marked with bright orange paint is not to be sold. I imagine this is for emission purposes as well, how long until we see the 4g63's marked.... and how retarded do they think I am. How much do you want to bet that I start taking cans of aircraft stripper with me into the jyard, when the 4g's get their new color?

I just coast by those emissions things anyway. My car is set up to be pretty lean when not in boost anyway, so f uck em.

They would not need anything like that for my turbo cars. If i am on boost you can see all the black smoke out the back.

OMG)

or all the ash on the back bumper.
