PocketLogger Graphs...Knocking only on take off?

Got the knock sensor changed, and that vacuum bracket removed. Not all the bolts were in the bracket so I think it was clanking against the intake manifold. It actually took me longer to get the bracket off than the sensor, and I got lucky I guess when first try I broke the sensor free. Glad I bought that small adjustable wrench last night at Wal-mart. Going out to log a few times and hopefully this ends my knock issues. Any luck with yours Tim?

Still trial and error right now. I got gas at Exxon instead of BP and my gas mileage went up 3 to 5 miles per gallon. Still have random knock though. I am going to loosen my knock sensor and tighten it back up to ensure I got it torqued right. Still have not check the intake bracket.

If there's no obvious reason for the phantom knock, reprogramming the ECU to ignore phantom knock can be an easy and very helpful solution. It transformed my car when I got rid of that shit.

One log showed a knock sum of 12,for a brief second then dropped back to 0. That was at 12 psi. No knock during cruising now,and some of my other logs I pushed to 14,what I have my mbc set to and either 0 or 2 counts of knock. And those were sporadic. I'm gonna log more today, see if anything has changed.

The real test is off boost and even off idle.Thats usually when it shows up the worst. Sometimes you might get when engine is cold, maybe from lifters and then it goes away when they warm up. I have not tried new lifters in my 91 laser as selling the car and not going to spend anymore time or money on it. I never tried them in my 92 talon but that one got fixed with that ecu program.

What is this bracket thing that was making noise maybe? I agree you should run a knock sensor if you can. I was just saying not that dangerous to run it disconnected at low boost like 15psi and under as long as you run premium fuel. And its annoying to get that check engine light so not a very good solution. But it can make a car driveable that isn't driveable and safer to drive until you figure it out which sometimes takes lots of money and time and still you don't fix it. Then the dsmlink or chipped ecu comes into play.

Here's the bracket,or stay as it's referred to in Hayne's manual. Without it it was alot easier to reach the knock sensor. <a href="http://s31.photobucket.com/albums/c355/dikdiamond/?action=view&current=airintakestay-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c355/dikdiamond/airintakestay-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I understand what you were saying about unplugging the sensor,I'm just new to dealing with turbos, and still learning as I go...plus I just put on a small 16g and I'm babying it a little :p So far no knock at idle or cruise.

Engine noise. Need to quiet it down. Running the right oil makes a big difference. Phantom knock is not as common as most of you want to believe. It isn't always knock but something is making noise.
