Its really hard to keep a mildly modded DSM out of SM. I beleave a BOV puts you in SM, which also has modded evo's and sti's.

which also requires safety equipment I"m nowhere near ready to put on such a stock car.

not quite; changing a dsm's cbv is an SP mod. a 2g can compete well in ESP vs mustangs and camaros, as proven at topeka nationals. scca doesn't hate dsm's; after all they've won natl solo titles
Safty equipment? A Helmet is all one should need. Must be at least DOT approved, some clubs require a Snall Approved.

Please post the link to where you are reading this. I race in SM at all sorts of SCCA events and do not have to have a roll bar.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong?
3.3.2 Roll Bars
Roll bars or roll cages are strongly recommended in all cars. A roll
bar meeting the requirements of Appendix C, or a roll cage meeting
the requirements of Section 9.4 of the General Competition Rules
(GCR), is required in all A, B, C, and F Modified vehicles
1g/2g dsm's have a cbv, NOT bov. terms can make a difference in rules =)
.Why not toss on a 1g BOV and put the plastic cap on it, I highly doubt they will know it's not the FACTORY BOV for the 2g, I mean come on I don't call that cheating I call that fixing a factory #### up with a factory part off of the same kind of car, just older.
(a) the item is standard
on the year/model from which it was taken,
Year and model must be the same. Meaning a 1g BOV came off a different year DSM.
You can only swap parts from the same year and model DSM. A 1g BOV never came stock on a 2g DSM so that does not fall under that rule. Therefor, that 1g BOV you installed on your 2g is NOT stock.
I'm more concerned with a DSMs suspension capabilities in its respective class for the mods allowed. The only thing a DSM did have going for it was its power potential and ability to put it down in a straight line, and the rules in all categories except the top prevents you from even that.
The DSM 2g stock suspension is a very well setup double wishbone suspension. Just get a good set of rubber and with some practice, you'll have a good chance of winning.
It may not sound like cheating to put a 1g BOV on a 2g, but its not how the car came from the factory. Cars are put into each class based upon factory specs/performance, once you change something from factory, it is no longer rated for that particular class and will/could be bumped into another class
