idiots guide to: engine harness??

Hey fellas,
My 99 gst has pretty much been collecting dust for the last two years. Piece by piece the motor has been pulled apart and placed on ebay. I yanked the motor well over a year ago. I recently scored a 7bolt 4g63 from an expo rvr (JDM motor..hey the price was right). Considering it's been a long time since I've looked at my dsm, I'm kind of lost as to how to put it all back together. I finished mounting the motor today. I'm left with the harness, piping, radiator, etc to go. Anyways....does anyone here have link to a breakdown of the 99gst engine wiring harness??..meaning "this plug has these color wires, and goes to this.."

I'm also questioning myself on a move I made a couple of days ago. The motor i recieved did not have a CAS on the upper passanger side of the valve cover. At the time it seemed like a good idea to just pop off the block off plate that is installed there on the JDM motor and install my current CAS there. Should I of done differently?

Does anyone have a link to a complete walkthrough of a 4g63 swap for me to use a reference? I know alot of it is common sense, but it'd help to have something to use as refernce when a question arrises. It's not a 6 bolt conversion or anything, just a simple 7 bolt to 7 bolt swap. (aside from having to swap over a few parts from a usdm motor. This is my first motor install and I'm pretty much on my own...just need the help of some cyber friends??

You should be able to keep your harness and everything. Just pull the correct sensors from your old motor, throw them in the new motor and hook em up. Nothing to swapping any year 4g63 and keeping the cars original harness. Just hook every thing up like it was before you pulled the old motor out.

thank you for the reassurance. So even though the jdm motor has an internal CAS, I can still use my external one?

As long as you can bolt it on it should work BUT if you're not using a 1g CAS then you're gonna have to find a way to use the crank and cam sensors together. IF you've converted to a 1g CAS you're good to go!

I hope you got the ECU that came with that JDM motor or you will spend lots of nights working on it. What year is your JDM motor???Is this a turbo 7 bolt??Is it a pre 95 motor ALDL or OBD2??
What I would do is BOLT everything and all sensors to this new JDM block including injectors, coil pack, power transistor, intake manifold etc from your 99 gst motor
Your 99 GST has a non adjustable CAS on the passanger side of the valve cover. Now most JDM engines got a 1G style CAS adjustable including JDM EVO I,II,III. You can't use your stock GST CAS, you will have to get a 1G style CAS and make a custom harness...
You basicaly need to transplant every sensor from your GST motor to the new one, then we can discuss about the CAS harness you need to make.

The only thing I retained from the JDM motor are the head and block themselves. Every single sensor has been swapped as well as the entire intake assemly, coil, etc. My motor is not from an evo of vr4, its from an expo RVR and is obd2. It did, however, recieve the internal CAS. I simply swapped mine over, why do you think this wont work?

Make sure its the same gen 7bolt, I just got done swapping a 1g 7 bolt into a 2g.
A lot of parts aren't the same.
Just to name the most important, the plate between the engine/trans, CAS is different, CAMS are different.
The cams on a 1g 7bolt have no provision for a screw like on the 2g CAS, for the 2g CAS is not self contained like on 1g's.

hey rob you think you can elaborate a little bit on the cams? you said there's no provision for a screw? what screw? Granted mine is not a 1g 7bolt, its a jdm rvr. But it has an internal CAS. All i did was bolt on my 99 CAS..is there another part I'm missing?

97-99 CAS bolts to the pass side of the intake cam. The cam itself is tapped so that you can screw in the CAS bolt.

95-96 CAS' are located on the underside of the intake cam gear on the drivers side.

His 1G 7 bolt is from 92.5 - 94, which used the '1G CAS'. It is mounted in the same position as a 97-99 CAS, but does not use a bolt to mount to the intake cam.
