B&M and clone short shifter 2nd gen eBay Megan [Merged 3-7]

OK I got one and the one that I got does not look like any I have seen before. So I contacted the seller and he told me its the 2Gen shifter, any of you guys tried it yet. But they say it only reduce the throw like 30% or so??? He said he can sent me the normal one. Should I keep this one or get the normal one?

It appears to replace both levers. I am sure it is not an innovative new setup. Probably a clone of one of those non-B&M designs. I am sure somebody has seen it before, and can give you their input.

Depending on what the others say, I am for sending it back in exchange for a tried-and-true B&M clone. You could install it first and see what you think. It is your shifter, in your car. You might like it.

I was digging for other photos for another thread, and found this. Figured I would throw it in here. My eBay B&M clone. I was replacing the shifter plate's bushings when I snapped this, hence the ratchet and missing plate bolts.

For people wanting to know where to grind metal off, look at the right side of the purple/pink part. Where it rests on top of the stamped and folded lever is where is should be ground down.

a question: back in page 4, i think, Defiant posted a picture of the original shifter and the B & M SS. Theres a line that reads "50%" throw for the B&M SS, which matches the "Original Throw" of the Original Shifter, i thought the "50%" was the shorter throw?

I guess my question is, when i get my B&M SS, if i want the absolute shortest throw possible, Which setting will give me the 'shortest' throw 35% or 50%??

The pivot point is raised in the B&M (and clones) which changes the ratio. This means the lever under the pivot is longer, and the lever above the pivot is shorter. The 50% is a much shorter throw than the original shifter was. Mine is set to 50%.

edit: I have pictures of the throw after installation, post #681, page 23. (Pics were previously down, I fixed that)

I got what appears to be the same ebay knock-off shifter that LOCKE has pictured 4 posts up.

First of all, I couldn't get the pink part to slide onto the shift mechanism. I'm going to have to bore out the hole a little to get it to fit. Trust me, I tried very hard to get it on. I scracthed the hell out of it trying to get it back off. Hopefully I won't have to grind down the part he said needs to be ground down.

Can anyone tell me what this part is or where it goes?

Sorry the pic is blurry, but I wanted to try to show the inside. It's just a small metal cylinder with some ridges on the inside.

The shifter didn't come with instructions, but I found the link to the B&M instructions at one of the supporting vendor websites. Those instructions show no such part.

Thanks in advance.

Jimmy

That is the bearing. You will need to press that into the coloured aluminum pivot block. You can press it in with the bolt, nut, and washers that may have come with the shifter.

hey i got a 99 gs-t and i wana invest in a new short shifter cause the one it came with dosent feel right its to stiff when it comes to changing gears...and another thing my cars gas peddle gets stuck in the mornings when i start it up and have to step on it a lil hard to unstuck it any ideas what the problem could b?http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif

B&M's are nice. kinda spendy, we can order them at work (Advance Auto Parts) so I figured hell, and I like it alot. The adjustability is nice, and it fits perfect.

You can buy knockoffs from ebay that look exactly the same, Ive seen them both right next to each other, no weight difference or looks.

Modify your own or get an eBaymotors shifter. No use in spending $100+ for a shifter. Youre only paying for the name.

As far as the gas peddle sticking in the mornings it is most likely the throttle plate binding up. Tomorrow morning (when you expect it to be stuck) try turning the throttle lever on the back of the TB by hand. If it still sticks then it is likely the throttle plate.

If it doesn't stick then get back in the car and push on the peddle. If this makes it stick then the throttle cable is probably binding somewhere.

If you think it is the throttle plate then remove the TB elbow and use some TB or carb cleaner to clean the throat of the TB and the edges of the throttle plate. If that doesn't fix it there are a couple other things you can try but do these first.

In addition to the Symborski shift kit (which really does work quite well) that snowborder714 mentioned, also consider replacing the bushings at the transmission end of the cables with bearings from a skateboard, inline skates, etc.

I bought a Fidanza throw-shifter for my 95 gs-t and it gave the car a sporty feel, easy to install with no problems shifting at all when i installed it i changed the bushings:dsm:

Ok, I can't bother reading through this entire thread so here is my question.

Does the B&M clone shifter lowers the shifter height? Answer - No.

Edit: I already got an answer to my question Defiant. No need to edit my post to prove a point.
