What size injectors and other advice.

Well I blew my 420A a couple weeks ago so I'm going big this winter. I'm getting the howell 2.2 stroker short block, bigger cams, and probably running MS as full stand alone along with a bunch of other stuff.

I was just wondering what size injectors all of you guys are running so I can get an idea of what I might need because I don't want to buy some and then have to get bigger ones right away. Also, in our 420A systems are the injectors high or low impedence? I'm really looking forward to getting all this together this winter.

I'll take anyones advice and suggestions on what to get this winter. It'd be great to get some feedback on people that are running these on their 2gnt's already because it will help me immensely this winter with my decisions.
 
Our injectors are high impedance, but it doesn't really matter if you'll be getting MS. Megasquirt can equally control both high and low impedance injectors. The size injectors you choose depends on your goals for the car...
 
A common estimation for what size injectors you need will be their cc/min flow. 550cc/min injectors can support about 550whp. That is an example and this is just a way to estimate.

I have no idea what to expect with the stroker with lower compression. I am hopefully shooting for at least 350 hp. I do have a set of 450's out of one of my old 1g's. Do you think those would be fine to use? What kind of fuel pressure are you guys running also because on my hahn setup with the rising fuel pressure I was at about 120 psi with 9 pounds of boost. I am definitely getting away from that high pressure stuff.
 
With Megasquirt, all you'll need is a 1:1 AFPR... so fuel pressure shouldn't be much higher than 70psi @ 20psi of boost.

I think 450's might sell you short on 350whp+. If you are running MSnS, I would go with something like 880's. The MSnS can handle the adjustments and leave you open for upgrades.

Ok looks like I'll be looking for some way bigger injectors then LOL. I can't wait to get this project rolling. I might just get the MSnS board disassembled and solder everything myself since it's so cheap doing it that way.

I'd say that were true if you were using porterfueler, or an SFMU......but using a 1:1 regulator 550cc will sell you short of 350whp for sure. It can barely get me to 300whp at 16.5-17psi on my turbo.

Yeah if your looking for 300whp plus you should probably guestimate the crank horsepower will be anywhere from 20-50 hp difference from the wheel. So you should have injectors that support up to 400 brake horse power. If you do some calculations on a fuel injector flow rate (RC Fuel Injection) you'll find out you'll need about 800cc to get there, so 880cc are about right. and will probably take you higher than 400whp........LOL if your really looking to go big just drop in the 1000cc and go from there LOL

I'll probably go with a set of 750's and see where I end up
 
A set of 780cc injectors will keep you busy into the 25-30 psi range. 550cc will max out aroun 18psi.

Which I do, but for the portfueler setup we factor the 500cc injectors into our what 200cc stock injectors on a 1:1 FPR? I am sorry for bringing up a moot point but I just want to make the information clear for searchers.
 
I had 440's and came in close to the 300whp range. I know have 880's and am having a ton of fun tuning them!!! I would say go somewhere in teh 660 range and you should be set for plenty of furture mods.
 
Update.

Ordered the 2.2 stroker short block with 8.6:1 compression this morning from Howell Automotive. Hopefully it doesn't take forever like shit from there normally does. Est. time they said for it is 8 weeks. We'll see about that.

Also have a 97-98 talon front bumper, big front mount, 3" thermal exhaust, and idk for fuel yet waiting to go in. Still need to get a 1:1 for fuel, prob megasquirt also for just the injectors i was thinking and a wideband.
 
Your car will have rust on it by the time you get that LOL j/k. On a serious note though I wouldn't count on 8 weeks from hearing about people who ordered the same thing I think I heard one guy say it took 6 months to get his stroker. That's gotta be funny you come home one day and poof a engine haha.

On a injector note I have always been a believer (with tuning ability willing) go as big as yor wallet will allow and then just tune down and have room. Nothing worse for a engine than running injectors at like 110%IDC been there no bueno:notgood:. I would pick up 1000cc or something if you can manage them and that way you will never run out of fuel unless of course you try and break the 420a record and then you probably would know enough that you wouldn't even be here asking us what to do.
 
Lol. Well for now since the wallet is tight, I'm putting in some 450s out of one of my old lasers with a resistor box and still going to use rising fuel pressure. It's going to be some crude tuning with the wideband but it's still better then the stock 210cc injectors or whatever size they are. I've been calling howell ever week or so asking for updates and last time i called which was about 2 weeks ago they told me it was in the machine shop and it would be another 3-4 weeks. Time is counting. We'll see what happens.
