I have a degree in engineering and am a registered engineer in SC so I am a newbee to DSM's but not to engineering. Mild steel has a value of 36ksi and on 1.5" tubeing with .200" wall that equates into a radial section of 1.125" and an elasticity of 3.36 that is going to = way too much deflection. I would not waste my time on a mild steel version of this just because of the safety factor and go with a 52ksi chromolly version with proper bracing to handle lateral loading and deflection. The best of luck in the fabrication and most of all do lots of testing. Also the truck frame is unreal I need one of those.
I understand the numbers, but real life data is also important. I have about 300 miles on it, 5 passes and typical street driving. Acouple massive bumped on the highway, speed bumps, and hard turning. Everything is still in check.
