Don't forget that we do have a couple bolt-on coil pack "upgrades" available; MSD's 36,000V coil pack #MSD-8229, and the Screamin' Demon 40,000V coil pack #31732. Both appear to have longevity issues, though.

But I completely agree with you, he should be fine with the stock ignition system.
I have the MSD coil pack and wires, but I wouldn't neccessarily call them an "UPGRADE". Seeing as how it puts out 36,000 volts of secondary voltage identical to the OEM. The Screemin Demon puts out 40,000 volts of secondary voltage which would be a slight upgrade, but not enough of an upgrade to justify spending the money.
