2.3 turbo help

Hi all. I am having a 2.3 long block being built, but I only have a 14b.
I wanted to get a SBR 20g bastard to make this look like a stock motor as best as possible. I was told that with that turbo I would not even be scratching the surface of what this motor is capable of. I was told a 60 trim would be kick a$$ with a 2.3. Here is my question. This is the turbo I am thinking to buy http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=2209& is the upgrade to ball bearings worth it?? I figured with the 2.3 it will spool faster than normal, isn't there only so much you can do?

Yes, you will want to go bigger than a tdo5 20g. I have a 50 trim on my 2.4 and would like to go bigger.

The 60 trim compressor wheel is nice, however I dont like the small turbine housing or the T31 turbine wheel. I would look for something with a larger hot side. Have you looked at forcedperformance turbos? Im leaning toward the FP3065.

FP 3065 would be my choice or they can build you a 3565 if you ask them. It has the larger turbine side of the 3575....which I would also consider if you don't mind a little lag.

The 6031 would be a very well suited turbo for a stroker engine.

In all fairness however, it depends on what your looking for in a setup. If its quick spool and fast torque you want, a true 20g or 50trim could be just what your looking for. I wouldn't go any smaller than a turbo this size b/c with the added VE of the engine, you'd be out outflowing a smaller 16g or similar sized turbo in no time. Andy Moraitis still has a B16G on his 2.3L and while runing 22psi it falls off significantly by the top of the gear.

I run a 50trim in my 2.3L and I have 25psi by about 3600, and it holds it to redline, it doesn't fall off at all.

But, then again, if you don't mine a bit later spool, with in reality isn't that big of a deal. A stroker climbs the R's so fast anyways that nearly every turbo will have decent spool up, ever for daily street commutes.

If you like how the 14b spools on the 2.0L and you arent looking to make 400+ hp, I suggest a 50 trim. Even though Ive grown tired of my 50 trim (and its grown tired of me) the power comes on very quickly and keeps pulling through about 7k rpms. With a 76 trim t31 turbine wheel, you could make a very responsive and powerful car.

What are you goals? How much power do you want to put down? Are you more concerned about spool or top end pull?

The FP turbos are great, however I do not hold the key to Fort Knox. If I can make between 450 and 500 awhp I will be happy. I don't want a turbo that spools past 4,000 rpm. I won't run the car much past 7k. I want to keep this a street car as much as possible.

This thing is starting to come together. SBR is finishing the motor and is estimated to be finished by the end of the month. I finally decided on a turbo thanks to the Cragger at SBR. They have a turbo called the Baby Kahuna which is a replica of the GT30R minus the bbs. I should be able to hit 400 awhp when its all said and done.

If you are thinking of going with the 6031, you should also consider the 5252. The stroker will benifit from the larger turbine because of better exhaust flow. I currently run the 5252 on my 2.0 and I see full spool(25psi) around 42-4300. On the 2.3, that should be right around 4000 rpm or less.

Im in the same boat. Have you looked at the PTE ball bearing turbos? The BB 60-1 looks to be a monster.

I looked at a slew of turbos. I never new there where so many selections. I started to obsess over it. I couldn't justify the extra $400 for the bb center section. I will be able to buy methanol injection or a wideband o2 with the savings. The T3 baby kahuna will spool around 3800 with a 2.3 and pull strong all the way to 7500.

Its the same thing with everyone....why not go relativly big the first time. You always end up going bigger even if you wanna make xxx amount of power now before you know it that wont be enough. Get something that gives you room to work

i'm in the same situation trying to decide on turbo w/ 2.3l setup. but im automatic so im trying to stay away from the 'lag' but than again i ordered a shearer t4 manifold so haha guess i'll have to figure it out sooner or later

Update. I got my 2.3 running and it's awsome. I consulted SBR and went with the Baby Kahuna. I had my car dyno tuned on a Dynojet last week. I am running 19psi on pump gas laying down 309 awhp. The turbo starts to spool at 3500 rpm and full boost at 4200.

im sorry but did i read the words replica. doesn anyone remember the 16G GT turbo's.
buy the real thing or replace it in a mounth

It replicates how the GT30R performs. I don't have a t3 housing, I have a Mitsu.
