I made it out for another test and tune session tonight. I'm still shaking the car down and this was in really bad track conditions. With a few known handicaps and at only 31psi:

1.397 60' - leaving at 10psi and spinning
3.9861 330'
6.0982 @ 116.27mph 1/8
9.5052 at 142.81mph 1/4

This was on a very conservative tune. I'm sure with more boost and some known handicaps removed, the car has at least 20mph more in it. I'm just getting started, later this season will tell the whole story.

I'm happy as hell to FINALLY get a new best time after not going faster since the end of 2005. I also finally knocked out Gary Marsh's old fwd dsm record. All in all, tonight was a really good night.

Are you using a spool up shot of juice? also are you using 4th gear/ aka over drive? IF so how is it holding the power?

Absolutely no nitrous. This car hasn't had nitrous on it for a couple years now.

This trap speed is about 7700rpm in 3rd gear with the 28" slicks and FWD gearing. I do not intend to ever attempt using 4th gear. For others though, power holding in 4th gear shouldn't be a problem, but breaking input shafts might eventually become an issue. We will be using 4th in Dean's car, which should be capable of over 150mph.

4th gear is kind of iffy.. I have gone to it a few times on the track and never had a problem.. but then on the street doing a 3rd gear roll and shifting to 4th at like 6k rpms rather than my usual 8k I broke the end clutch housing.. the end clutch held perfectly but the outside splines on the housing cracked and it just spun on the shaft so use with caution.

Well, I guess it will be pretty obvious if that happens!

Short-shifting an AT is harder on parts than running the gears out. You will get more torque multiplication the earlier you shift it. The clutch packs in this trans are also centrifugally self-energizing. What I mean by this is the effective pressure plate load in the rotating clutches goes up with rpm, increasing clamping power (had nothing to do with your failure, but a worthwhile side note).

It is a Precision Industries Billet 9.5" converter.

No, I am not locking it up. Actually, mine has the lockup clutch removed since I don't need it.

Ah a Precision, what are you going to do if you need to rebuild it, restall etc??
I hope they will still take care of everyone that has one.

Have you ever figured out your converter efficiency, I am curious on that N/LU converter.
 
Of course PI supports their parts. They no longer make a non-lockup 1g style converter, but they fully support anything they made.

Coupling efficiency and torque multiplication both come into play bigtime on high stall, high power turbo setups. The converter is normally in torque multiplication after a gear shift, then doesn't get into the coupling phase until near the end of a gear. I know it clamps down to less than 5% slip if I rev it to 9k. Since I'm only through the traps at about 8k right now, I'm seeing about 8-9% slip there. This is only 800rpm above shift-extension stall speed at 31psi though.

Bottom line, the converter works well and is very efficient.

No can do for the Pinks All Out event. They sold out all the racer's entries in less than 15mins back in early March. I wasn't one of the lucky few. I'd love to run it, but I can't get in.
