Alright, so I had the car ripped apart and the whole engine taken out. I knew i needed a new piston so the mechanic took the whole engine apart to take a look to see if there is anything else wrong with the car. I will be replacing the clutch with a stage 1, porting the 16g axles and pretty much the struts injectors you know basically the whole works. My question is the guy is charging me $2000 for all that work i just dont have the time to do all that myself thats why im paying someone else, just wanted to know if im getting raped for that amount of work or is it worth it???

What is he all doing? Most of that stuff is included in taking the motor out. The axles should be included. The clutch just takes a few minutes to replace. Are you completely rebuilding the motor? Or is he just taking it apart and putting it back together? If he is just taking it apart and putting it back together that seems a bit high. Flatrate for a rebuild/overhaul it only 13 hours. What does he charge an hour? I would go in and ask for a detailed copy of the bill and see if you can scan it for us. Depending on all the work though it could be about right.

Its always going to cost you more than you would like it to when you have someone else do the work for you. Shops out here want to charge $80 or $90 an hour for labor. Its crazy. But I do all my own work even if it takes three times as long for me to find time to get it done.

well it includes any parts that need to be replace, piston for sure im probably just going to do all four my head is completely rebuild new heads already. Heres the list of parts that are getting replace ill try to rememer it all, pistons getting replaced, timing belt and tensioner, getting a 2g exhaust manifold, axles replaced, struts, injectors, ECU Removal and install getting it re-maped, Clutch. possible oil pump removal and install thats as much as i know now. Since im on the topic i know its common to replace 1g pistons with 2g pistons especially if your getting the chance to rebuild, what is the benefit if that or is there any?? is it not the same pistons?...............But that's the list guys

How are you remaping the ECU? Not really something you can do to a 1g ECU as far as I know. Stick with 1g pistons. 2g pistons have more compression but with the 1g aggresive timing maps it really doesn't help that much. Less compression=more boost LOL. For $2000 that seems about right though. I wouldn't complain because since he did it, anything that goes wrong with the car pretty much falls on him from now on so it's a pretty good deal.

Ooops sorry I Meant to say that the ECU will be removed to see if its an EPROM and if it isnt i will get one. Then send it off to DSMchips.com. So, that is a reasonable price? Ok, if you guys say so i trust you all.
