I finally got my logger took a couple runs..Im idleing at like 950 and at idle the timing reads 14...However, as I accelerate, the timing acts strange.

3rd gear
rpm timing
---------------------
2912 23 degrees
3028 26 degrees
3160 22 degrees
3296 5 degrees
3500 4 degrees
4184 7 degrees
4496 8 degrees
4692 8 degrees

Mind you the boost is only set at 8psi.I have never done anything with a logger so I dont even know what to be looking for.Is this normal? If not, what is the timing supposed to look like and how do I make it like that?

thanks
mike

that doesn`t look good.

You are getting much knock around 3200rpm... the timing should be round ~16-20 not 4-8 degrees

that looks quite fine. You have to do a pull for us from 2000ish - to redline , Timing is supposed to dip when you start to build boost. If your on the stock turbo that looks about right. Do the pull at WOT , So we can Accuratly judge whats going on

Is that 8 psi based off of a boost gauge or the stock gauge? If I were you I would invest in either a home-made manual boost controller or buy one off a vendor and turn the boost up a little more. You can run more than 8 lbs safely on a fully stock car. Do what Rocksolid said, we need a log from 3k to redline to accurately tell you whats going on.

that is off a aftermarket boost gauge with a boost controller...

Though my comment was supposed to be a bit sarcastic, I didn't see the 8psi bit. (it looked like a signature so I didn't bother to read it).

I'll await the new log before commenting.

He's right, do not listen to the other two.

Do a log from 2500rpms to redline in 3rd gear at WOT The whole time. If you were not wide open on first few RPMS then those timing values make perfect sense.

There isn't enough information in that log to make a determination. You need to increase the samples per second and add some additional parameters to the log. As bushy said, make a 3rd gear pull from 2.5k to redline logging rpm, timing and O2 voltage and then post that up.

I also see that you are completely stock, is that correct? Why are you running 8psi?

I will give you guys a good pull today..Let me give you a little more info on my car as it isnt compltly stock.I just installed a brand new 6 bolt block with big 1grods/2gpistons.This is mated with a fresh 7 bolt head. I am running a ported 14b with a 3 inch catback. As far as the low boost goes, I turned it down because the car cuts out briefly, almost like fuel cut, when it gets to like 4-4500 rpms....I really appreciate the help and will post my reults this afternoon.

ok did another run...this time in 2nd gear (didnt have enough room to do 3rd too LOL

Someone said I may be off on my ignition timing? I lined it up as follows

-t
- <-------------------i tried to line it up with this mark

Is that correct?Could my stutter problems be the misfire issue?I just did the pot mod and have been adding tiny amounts of resistance (since yesterday) but havent gotten rid of it yet.I have noticed a slightly smoother acceleration in 1st in 2nd though. Third and up still cut out around 4500+. Ireally have no experiance with a logger and at this point i am out of my league. It sucks becuase I really dont understand the readings I am getting.I dont know what 02 voltage or timing I should be at nor do I know when it is wrong.Any help is greatly appreciated!
thanks
mike

There is definately something going on here. Your O2 voltage is really erratic but then again, O2 voltage means nothing at WOT. When does your 14b reach full spool? Your timing dip is really late, but you are getting a consistent increase till redline.

Have you checked out the normal pre-tuning stuff, like plugs, leak check, etc?

The pot mod isn't the best way to address the RM CEL associated with the 6-bolt swap. Seeing as how you have a '95, it should have an EPROM ECU. I would look into DSMLink if your ECU is indeed an EPROM.

I'm going to wait to comment further on the log, until you can get a 3rd gear pull. 2nd gear goes by pretty quick and it's hard to get resolution on the logger. 3rd gear is going to give us a lot more data points to work with.

Also, can you update your vehicle profile with all your mods? It will just make everyone's life easier. :thumb:

You can't log knock on a 2g........

Find a place for a 3rd gear pull from about 2k rpm, press the gas pedal ALL THE WAY DOWN aka WOT, up to redline and do it again. There isn't enough load on the motor in 2nd gear to get accurate readings

I listed my mods above (as well as changed my profile)...All the basics have been coverd..there are new plugs and wires and coilpack..I recently developed a crack in the exhaust mani so I need one of those, but other than that there are zero boost/vacume leaks....as far as a 3rd gear pull, as soon as i get to lik 4000 rpms, it briefly cuts out and then continues giving me horrible acceleration up top....As far as dsmlink goes, thats not happening..Im not spending another 500 on the car...I have no intrest in dicking around with fuel or boost...all I want is for the car to run normally...I have talked with numerous other people regarding the pot mod and found mixed review..for me at this point, that is the direction i am going...i will try a 3rd gear pull this afternoon and post results tonite...thanks so much for your help so far

It may seem trivial, but is your TPS at 95% or above at wide open trottle? It's always good to be sure you are actually at wide open throttle when the pedal is all the way down.

Sounds like you are getting a misfire. Could be a number of things. A boost leak will cause the airfuel to change and in turn cause a misfire.

You say you have no boost leaks. What psi did you pressure the system too and how long did it hold? Also what plugs and gap are they at?

ok 3rd gear pull

Ok, it seems like people say I have a boost leak thats causing my misfire/rich condition...the only thing leaking is my cracked exhaust mani...would that cause any issues related to my problem? How does this run look?

checked the plugs and they all are white and black, what causes the car to run rich and lean?I looked for vacume leaks and found a hose was disconnected from the fuel rail.Unfortunatly, that didnt help the hesitating problem...any more ideas?

Did you do an actual boost leak test to see if you had any leaks or did you wiggle a couple couplers and decide you didn't have any visible leaks? Was the hose that was disconnected from the fuel rail the fuel pressure regulator hose I assume?

correct..and today i found another hose loose..i did a boost leak test and everything seemed ok...drove the car, and it pulled great again...parked it....came back an hour later and i have low vacume, no bottom end power and a hesitation in low rpms..im guessing another vacume leak?

"everything seemed ok" doesn't cut it with boost leak tests. Please post something more specific. IE: How much pressure did it hold for how long.
