hey guys, I just ordered the treadstone turbo kit which can be seen here:

https://redhat3.admarkonline.com/~treadstone/product.phtml?p=235&cat_key=12&prodname=420a+Turbo+kit+95-99+Eclipse+Talon

I know the kit isnt perfect, the downpipe needs to be welded and the IC piping looks universal but you cant beat that price and im very ready to get my hands dirty. I know i will also need the fuel components. I am planning on a 255lph walbro for the fuel pump. But i have questions on the rest of the fuel system. What ratio should i get for a rising rate FMU? a 12:1? and which FMU works the best with our cars? also, do i need a FCD? I a little scared of overboost as i plan on running 8psi and i know our engines wont take much over 10. The kit also comes with the option of a garret T3 turbo for like $100 less. i know nothing about these and am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on them or the tubonetics t3/t4 that the kit comes with. As a final question should i get larger fuel injectors? possibly 270cc or 310cc and if i do do i need any sort of engine management or is the FMU good enough.

sorry about the long post but i need to start ordering the rest of the parts ASAP. thanks in advance for any advice.

I am not 100% on these (I have not turbo'd my 420a) so before taking my word, wait for somebody with more turbo experience to chime in.

12:1 FMU, any should work. Vortech is a common, well known brand.

Yes you will need an FCD (or missing link). Paul might be able to hook you up if he's still making those.

I understand most people don't try going over 8psi. You would want a wideband to stay safe.

You shouldnt need larger injectors. If you did get larger injectors, you would want an SFMU or SAFC to tune them in vacuum.

For fuel you'll need at least a 190lph fuel and a 12:1 FMU. But don't run more than 8psi on that setup, you'll start to go lean. If it's a daily driver that you want to be responsive go with the T3. Looks like the kit comes with an extrenal wastegate, so just make sure you don't kink the vaccum line to it and you'll be good. You'll need an FCD for sure so contact Paul and if you use the fuel set-up mentioned above, theres no need to upgrade your injectors. I'm in the middle of my turbo installation (look at thread: It's Turbo Time). I'd say the hardest part is trying to get all the old bolts that have never been touch before. Use some P'Blaster and wear some gloves unless you don't care about the skin on your hands. Good luck...

I would ask to switch out that FMIC with one that is in the main picture. That one with the vertical fins and inlet/outlets on the same side is ugly. I saw a picture of it on a car on 2gnt.com and it looked terrible imo.

i was wondering about that... ill call them as soon as they open tomarrow

Those vertical intercoolers (although very ugly imo) have a history of being able to flow a lot of air for its size. (I don't know why that is, but its based off of looking at other's compared the horizontal ones and comparing flow rates to size, I didn't do the math on it just in case you were wondering, sorry)

Don't forget to fill up with premium gas before the install, and if you have the cash considering replacing the air filter when it gets here w/ a k&n or my favorite an AEM dryflow.

I'm not sure if the kit comes w/ a boost gauge, but that should be on your list as well.

And this is strictly IMO, you might considering running whatever the stock wastegate is set up (probably 5psi) for a week or so and let the engine get used to seeing boost, then install the boost controller afterwards, but like I said IMO

i grabbed an a pillar pod with boost and air/fuel guages off ebay. should do the trick. I fill my car with premium in the winter anyways... my car loves it, especially when i need to start her up after sitting for awhile outside my dorm in sub zero temperatures. The vertical intercoolers also seem easier to install, i guess i will find out if this is the case or not as they were out of the horizontal ones featured in the picture. Thanks again guys for the help, im not new to working on cars but ive never done a turbo install before and you guys are definently making it easier for me.

No body had a -4an elbow, here in Mid-Mo, so I got pissed off cut the line and hooked up a 1/4" elbow with fittings. I get a little crazy at times. Lol... You'll be able to see pics later in the It's Turbo Time thread.

Sounds good... im trying to soak up all this information about what other people have done before i get a little crazy myself and start tearing apart my car when the parts start getting here.

What you can do before hand is install the FMU and start soaking the exhaust bolts in some pb blaster LOL...cause they suck. You can also, if you would like to, take your oil pan off now and weld a bung or whatever you're going to use and put a cap on it. And, you can put your fuel pump in, boost gauge, pillar mount, and i dont know about the FCD or not, I just waited on that. And, if you feel to let out that little bit of ricer in you, you can install the IC with no piping...just a thought.

One thing I did is I used exhaust mani studs instead of bolts. It seemed more reliable to me. Also, you will need to get a filter for your PCV valve. And if you can get some colder plugs, do it. Nowhere around here had any so I just went with the origional coppers.

Sorry to ramble on...
