Vortex Generator for a 2G

I guess to put this thread to bed, I ended up getting the Vortex generators painted and installed them and here's what they look like. Do they do anything except look more like an EVO? Nope. But then again did any of us actually think they would? Love 'em or hate 'em here they are

ok i officially dont like them..they look too sharp and pointy like..oh well thanks for being the test car!!

in the pics they look like razor blades, but they are exact copies of the EVO's and appear rounder close-up

I wouldn't be afraid to put them on the race car, but I don't think they look right. At least on a silver or light color car.

I'll put a pic up tomorrow (it's dark outside right now) but they actually dont look half bad. You can barely notice them when you're at a distance, and the car looks absolutely spartan with them. I'd only install them if you're going for the whole "look at me, I'm a baby EVO" thing. I also call them "cop magnets"

I don't get how you think a 2G looks anything remotely like an evo?

It doesn't look too bad. Definitely makes your car different, esp in the world of DSMs where stock look is preferred.

But yea, 2g, esp 2gb does not look anything like an EVO.. its like comparing a SQUARE and a CIRCLE.

I am taking some pics on a 2gb talon, on my 98 of course... I still have the 2 tone paint job, and the main color is Indy Red, so yeah, it looks sleek and glossy... I will take some pics tomorrow, full and angled shots, that way, you can see how they look on a Talon as well...

Sexy, plain and simple. Nice to see a DSM that isnt stock, but isnt overdone.

Well I have been doing a little reasearch on these and I thought that i would get a second opinion on these. There are really cheap so if they didn't work i wouldn't be a big loss. According to this it says that they decrease drag on our car and improve gas mileage because of the decreased drag. I know that these come on the evo MR's to help keep the car stiff at high speed and provide more down force on the rear spoiler. I know our spoliers on are cars are just for looks and provide very little if any down force at all. But do you think that it would help any. Also the way that they are showing you put them on is at an angle in the middle and straight towards the ends. The evos are straight all the way across so why would you put them on differently?

I know that the drag on the reap bumper is also really bad since the air comes up and runs right into it so I was looking into a rear diffuser but i haven't found anyone that makes them for our cars with out changing the rear bumper

The eclipse talons from 90 - 99 had a drag coefficient from .29 - .34. Only differences were from the side skirts and high rise spoiler.

Vortex generators on hatchback or liftback cars are non functional. Comes down to personal prefenerce, you like them, put them on.

wow thats great to know but the tall spoiler does chang how the car drives quite a bit. When i had my rs i put a tall spoiler on there and there was a noticeable difference in how the car felt at higher speeds.

I know our spoliers on are cars are just for looks and provide very little if any down force at all.

I've heard that the Talon high rise 97-98 spoiler is more effective in creating downforce than the 2G Eclipse spoiler.

Any idea how someone would start undertraying their car?
A good while ago I remember seeing a car with multiple steel plates under it, if thats what you mean. Not exactly sure how thick they were though. Looked very clean and no worries from rocks or road debris getting up in the cracks or whatever...Just hate to know how much weight was added from the plates...

Don't really care for how they look on a DSM. Plus the fact that they aren't really needed on them.

As stated before, fastback style cars do not suffer from the aerodynamic deficiency of having a large low pressure area immediately following the roof (where the rear window glass is). Theirs are behind the car, where the trunk lid ends. Your non-functional 2G basket wing is getting all the air it needs already.

Now, if you want to get crazy with aerodynamics, undertray your car and notice a drastic improvement at high speed.
