I ordered a SBC Stage 2 today and I was wondering If anyone has had any personal experience I would greatly appreciate their input. I know everybody talks very highly of SBC and I have been shopping around for quite a while, it just seemed like a quality product at a great price.

I replaced my clutch to another oem about 12000 miles ago but now it is slipping anytime I boost above 8lbs. I never raised the boost because I recently just purchased a new boost controller I'm not rough on my car either, don't street race and have only actually pushed it on the dyno.

Sorry, the reason im sharing all this is because im wondering if the SBC clutch would hold at least 300whp + the tq. My stock was slipping at 240whp at 8lbs of boost; Andy was very helpful as everyone said, but he kept gearing me towards the OFE stage 3, although its only $100 more. I just dont have that extra money on me nor will I anytime soon and I wanted to get this clutch soon. You guys think i'll be alright with the stage 2? My overall goal for this car is 300whp maybe a little over; I don't plan to install a bigger turbo or anything (maybe a 3'' exhaust system at the most).

What do you guys think?

Your best bet would be to call Andy back and ask him. There's no harm in asking... and he can't pressure you into buying an upgraded clutch if you say you can't afford it outright. Just ask him about what HP they're good for.

Based on SBC's published torque numbers, I think you'll probably be alright... but you should still call.

If you dont launch the car alot then that clutch will be fine. May want to go with the SS clutch presssure plate that will give you more clamping force. They are good guys over there. I have been inpressed with mine been 3 years now.

I was thinking about why my clutch was slipping the way it does and I was hoping for someone's insight.

I have a real slow oil leak that drips from the transmission bell housing. There is no visible oil leak on the outside so I was wondering if that is a good indication of a leaky rear main seal? If that is the case, then could that be the reason my clutch is slipping as well?

Trevtec is going to change out my rear main seal when they install the new clutch, but I was just wondering if that could be a factor as to why my clutch is slipping sometimes and not others....

Maybe if oil got in between the friction surface and the flexplate... but that'd be a really odd instance, especially if it's a very slow leak. I don't know how much boost you're pushing, but it's probably just a combination of the pressure plate not having enough clamping force and the OE friction surface not being up to the job.

I agree with Paul. The odds of oil getting in there aren't too great. Some people think the OEM clutches are great, but I have seen many instances where they tend to fail above or at 8 psi.

Andy said on 2gnt that the stage 2 TZ clutch will hold power fine and will last a long time, but there is a long cool down time for the clutch. If you ever plan on taking the car to a strip, you could run it once, but then you have to let it cool down completely before running again. He said this could take as long as 2 hours. If it were me, I'd go with the OFE.

Yep because of the Kevlar on the disc. It's great when cool, but after one or two runs it heats up and looses friction.

He did already state in his first post that he has already purchased the TZ.

I was thinking of running there street disk with there SS PP for a street strip 350 HP daily driver. The OFE grabs real well and can take anything. Its a little to grabby for me on a daily driver and its incosistant trying to slip it out on a lauch its eather on or off and its not friendly to your drive train with the shock.

Well, after a long annoying process with UPS, I hate that company, I finally received my clutch yesterday. Had it installed earlier this morning by Justin and Trevor over at Trevtec motorsports. The clutch pedal feels just like it did stock, haven't been able to push the car yet but I am really excited about this clutch. Now I just need a decent tune...

Good news! It's hard to stay off of it huh? I remember those days.. Weird thing about my clutch is the pedal pressure is actually less than stock, but once you shift you can tell it's aftermarket.
