I've read a few tech articles about FP replacement/upgrade, and they agree that you should disconnect the lower end of the high pressure fuel line rather than try disconnecting the upper end at the FP.

The vfaq article suggests cutting the sheet metal of the seat floor and bending it out of the way to make room for pulling the pump+line out and reinstalling it.

I was wondering if you could disconnect the bottom end first, then disconnect the upper end and be able to rotate the whole line with the bottom end free. I cringe at cutting my car to replace a part, and I was wondering if anyone had tried this successfully. I'm not sure if the line would still bind and twist even with the lower end free. I guess I could do a turn or two on the top end, then get under the car and turn the lower end to get rid of any twist, but that sounds tedious.

Thanks!

All I have done before was disconnected at the top. If they break go to the autostore get some fuel injection line and double hose clamp each side. Worked great for me! Just trying to make it easier for you rather then cut other stuff up. Hope this helps!

I skipped all of this because I was not able to loosen any of the connections; top and lower. I just cut the rubber fuel line in half than reconnected it by using a stainless steel barrel nipple. Worked great, made the FP install a 10 minute job.

You disconnect it at the lower end of the line, or else you'll have problems. You don't have to cut anything.

So I'll be able to pull the FP and the fuel line up through the floor of my car? The vfaq article indicated that it was tight to do it this way but possible. I guess I'll try pulling it through first. If that doesn't work, I'll try something else. I don't want to cut anything if I don't have to.

Thanks!
