I have been reading and reading about the bolt on 50 trims, and there are so many suggestions and what not, that it gets all scrambled in my head. My goal for my car right now: I just got a new motor built(check profile). I am looking at these 50 trims for it now. I want to get to about 450 awhp, and then I will leave it at that, unless it becomes an all out drag car then. (which I will worry about later.) I know that with a 50 trim so far, I need bigger injectors, I plan on getting some 680's. I know you need a afpr, the aeromotive one is the one I plan on getting. And then I know you need some sort of fuel management. I have been planning on getting the MAF-t for awhile now, and I will still get that. I have read that I can get the safc to fine tune it, but that the maf-t will be fine for a base tune for some fun daily driving. My buddy told me thay I would have to get the car on a dyno to get the car tuned before I could really have fun with the 50 trim. Is this true? I have read a lot on these bolt on 50 trims, and i have never read anywhere that you have to get it tuned on a dyno to run more boost. I know it is a great idea to get it on the dyno, but is it absolutely necessary? I just want for now to get the 50 trim get it all hooked up, and run it at 15 lbs. My motor is still pretty new (24 miles on it right now) It will have more miles on it by then, but I still am not going to give it hell just yet. So, what exactly do I need to run the 50 trim safely on my motor at 15-20lbs.

Let me know,

For 450whp I suggest you get something bigger than a 50 trim. Maybe a 60 trim, GT series or FP 30xx series turbo. If you want fast spool up, get a ball bearing turbo.

As for mods, it is hard to say because if you want 15-20psi now and then want to run 28psi later, you'll need more mods. But I say 255HP pump, good AFPR, FMIC, External wastagate setup, 850cc injectors, DSMLink and other usual stuff. If you want a MAFT just wait until the new version of link comes out (whenever that happens).

I don't know if you're aware of this, but you posted it in the Appearance section. You might want to PM a moderator and get them to move it into the newbie section.

Well you can go with a GT30R or 35R but this is a t3/t4 style so you would need a different exhaust manifold ex: Tubular manifold, external wastegate, 1000cc injectors, all supporting mods, clutch setup, Cams, DSMLink or AEM EMS, ARP studs and metal headgasket.

OR

Their direct bolt on GT turbos, they also have their own O2 housing setups, fuel mods, cams, bolt ons, clutch setup, DSMlink or EMS and most importantly tuning. Tuning will play a big role on how much power you put down

Maybe I should rephrase my question. I am looking to have a aggresive street car for now. I have been looking at the SBR-G50. Then I would get their manifold, with the 38mm wastegate off of the #1 runner. I think that is something I am leaning more towards.

thanks for the replies, keep them coming

Just a fun street car the 50trim will be fine, I'd feel more comfortable running 750's on a 50trim. Don't know if you can tune that with a Maf-T though.

Acording to your profile your running a 16g, so a 50 trim would be an awesome upgrade. Perfect for an aggresive and fun street car, anything more would be for race reasons really.

Im going for the same on my 91 tsi awd. 50 v-trim style turbo. 255lhp fuel pump. AFPR. Maf-t just like you. Then im going with a custom made manifold, exhaust, and intercooler piping. FMIC is a must really. 650's just to keep a base setting for. I was going to go 770's but i dont know yet. It seems ok and i will run about 17-20 maken 350 or i might run 2X just to keep 400

I don't see a 50trim breaking 400awhp unless they have a built motor with a lot of boost basicly maxing everything completely out. A fwd car might break 400whp but not a AWD. The range most with 50trims at their highest is about mid 300s and in some rare cases high 300s

Meth/water injections would help but again you really have to boost high to get high numbers and not everyone can afford AEM EMS. Most stick with 650cc and SAFC but thats really poor tuning device and won't break 400s. Some of you don't want to hear that and rather go through with the 50trim setups, till you experience it first hand and say 'Damn I should of gone bigger' LOL

I was so close of getting a 50trim a while back, because everyone recommended that setup or the 16g..Man I'm glad I went with a GT series, I didn't have to buy and re sell and buy another turbo and waste money and time

300+whp still a lot of power, most people would find it plenty already.

So, GreddyGst, what do you think about that SBR-G50? I know what you are saying, once you get to the hp you want, your gonna want more after that.

P.S. I do have a built motor, if wiesecos, and scat rods count. Head is still stock though

I want to add another idea. My buddy has got a tdo6 20g that was made to fit the mr2 turbo motor. I know it has the t3 exhuast housing, so I would need the new t3 manifold and have to get a downpipe made. It is setup for external gate. I know it is a good turbo, and it only has like 150 miles on it. I could grab that from him for 400. I tried searching all over the mr2 boards and such about that turbo to see what exactly it is. 50, 57, 60 trim? I dont know if it is just a 20g with a t3 housing and thats it or not. What do you guys think of that?

Let me know

Properly tuned a 50-trim can make more than 400awhp, hell an EVO III 16g can break 400awhp. Paul (99gstRacer) just made 402whp in his 50-trim powered GS-T with a bone stock motor/head/intake mani/TB. That was running 28psi on race gas with around 12:0 AFR.

Ok check my profile, 96 GST 120k mileage rebuilt head/timing-stock

Im front wheel drive, Still have NOT put on my 3" Dp, or cat only have 3" cat-back.

I have not been on a dyno, but at the risk of bench racing im smoking all stock V8's like mustages, camaro's etc, and this past sunday I stayed door to door with a 03 vette on the interstate from 65-130 mph.

I'm running roughly 20lbs on internal gated no engine mods other then rebuilt head arps and cometic HG, NO PORTED ANYTHING ! my spool time is butt ugly, full boost at 5.5k, this is due to my tiny ass stock exhaust(no $ to get the 3" stuff welded atm)Also running stock 2g 2" intake pipe on the 3" turbo inlet another slow spool issue but no $ for that upgrade atm either LOL

SBR G50 internaly gated
SBR front mount race core
SAFC-II
Pocket logger
650's
AFPR
255walbro

check profile for full details.......

Don't believe the "you can't go that fast on a 50trim" BS, Chris at SBR did me right ! Call him anytime tell him Kevin sent you LOL

ALSO the 50 trim doesnt even come into its own untill over 20-25lbs im BARELY scratching the surface of its output and im well over 300 hp, again im FRONT WHEEL DRIVE, AWD mileage may vary a little. :thumb:

ROFL you're my hero. i do see my self doing the exact same setup process in the near future.

I think I have made up my mind. I think I am going to get the sbr-g50 with a 38mm tial wastegate. I will also get 750cc injectors, aeromotive afpr, 255 fuel pump, and DSMlink. Does this sound like a pretty good setup to get to about 400hp to the wheels?

I'm not sure how accurate this is. It sounds like you're describing an Evo III, in which case, those points are very valid. The 50-trim, however, is slightly better. I have seen first hand many people break this. Hell, go check out the dyno sheets for this site. Lots of people seem to be breaking into the 400's. There's a guy locally with a 50-trimmed SRT-4 that's up into the 500's and I believe he's on stock internals.

would I be able to bolt on the sbr g50 and still run on stock injectors untill I get the dsmlink. I want to get that sbr g50, but I wont have the money to have everything at once. I am just wondering if it would be fine to run that turbo at like 10 lbs untill I get the 750's and the afpr and dsmlink.

let me know
