Getting tired of Walbro

This is the second 255 to give me trouble. The first would barely allow me to idle. The second one was fine but has always been a little loud. Now it intermittantly refuses to keep up the pressure that it should.

I thought they fixed their issues. Each pump was bought several months apart and from different shops.

Does anyone know if this is a 255 specific problem or are the HP's crap too.

I really don't want to buy the Supra pump but if this keeps happening, it could cost me a motor.

This is the first time I have heard of walbro problems. I have had mine in the car for 4 years with no problems. Are you still running the plastic cap and o-ring on the pump outlet? If so, do away with that and replace it with a short section of 3/8" fuel line. The fuel line fits extremely tigh on both the pump and into the bell of the pickup line so there is no chance of pressure leakage. The o-ring has a tendancy of twisting when sliding into the bell and causes a pressure leak. This can cause a multitude of problems.

edit: Are you using an afpr with the 255? Have you checked the vac line to the fpr? If it is cracked or if the vac diaphram in the fpr is bad, it could be keeping the pressure from rising consistenly with boost.

Really? There was talk about it last year. Rumor has it there was a bad batch, i'm sure there is a thread around here about it.

I have had the o-ring twist on me before.. nothing a little spit didn't fix. The next one I put will use the fuel line, i like that

I checked the AFPR, it's working fine... no cracked lines.

Is your pump rewired? btw update your profile it says you have a 190 and no AFPR. What brand of afpr do you have?

Why don't you want the Supra pump? I really like them. Can usually be picked up dirt cheap from Supra guys that have upgraded. They're quiet, and they're very reliable (like all Denso parts).

The only downside is that they do suck down a good deal more current, but that hasn't proven to be an issue. Personally, I have no idea why one would buy a Walbro instead of the Denso!

i've never had a problem with walbro. had one in my 91 gsx for more than 2 years and i now have one in the galant for almost 2 years. if you install that rubber/foam sock that comes with it quiet it down a lot.

It's not that I don't want the Supa pump, it the 3X price tag that I would like to avoid. I'm a little uneasy to buy a used one... ya know?

Yes the pump has been rewired. I always use the filter, but I have never bought one that included a sock.

if you have already bought 2 255's your already at 200 dollars, how much more is it going to take before you shell out the premium for a fuel pump that works? I've found it as cheap as 225 before, but as of now, (lost my favorites) the only place I can find that has it for a "deal" would be www.3sxperformance.com 270 I believe. You can probably find it for cheaper though on the 3kgt sites, or used from a supra guy.

From Stealth316.com- "Mitsubishi Lancer EVO8 stock. This is a Denso fuel pump, model 195130-3360. It looks similar in size and design to the fuel pump used in the non-turbo 3000GT and Stealth. With a tested flow of 191 lph at 43 psi and 13.5 volts it could be considered a drop-in upgrade for the non-turbo models, but not for the turbo models." The turbo model they're referring to is the 3000 GTVR4, it sounds comparable to a Walbro 190 LPH pump, but probably a lot quieter.

If i had the money i would get that Supra fuel pump for $190, its a hell of a deal, considering that you have already bought 2 walbros you could of bought a Supra fuel pump from the start.

i pm'ed someone a while back about these barry-grant pumps, but i was told that they were overkill. i saw how well the pumps supposedly did in the Modified Mag: STi fuel upgrade issue, which is why i was curious. of course, i was looking at the mighty sumo pump, so some may justified that it would indeed be overkill for my personal goals.

I installed a supra pump in my 97. It fits perfect in awd 1gs but the 2g is not a good fit.It sat crooked so used dremel on connector of think fuel level thing in there and it was a bit straighter but still not straight.I was thinking to maybe bend that metal line so it sits in there better.Also not sure how good the o ring is sealing since its not in there the best.
Can I replace the plastic piece and o ring with rubber line on the supra pump also and has anyone with a 2g bent the metal line to fit the supra pump better.
The supra is dead quiet and from what I understand very reliable.I ran one in my 92 talon with zero problems or noise.We did install one in other guys 1g and it was noisy as heck,turned out his fuel filter was totally clogged up.
Changed that out and the pump was whisper quiet again.
