removal of 2g stock intercooler

do i absloutely have to remove the front bumper to take this thing off? while swapping in a 14b about 1/2 quart of oil came out from it, so i figure it needs a cleaning. Theres just one bolt left and i have no idea how to get to it.

trust in the time ur taking to figure out how to get it off w/ out taking the bumper off u could have had the bumper off already...trust me when i did mine it is alot easyer just to take the buper off

I never touched my front bumper when taking out the stock smic.. I never knew you needed to. . I just take off the wheel, plastic cover, the bolts that hold the smic to the body, and then the clamps. Should be quick. Good luck.

there is a third bolt on the front side of the intercooler. i can see it, its just impossible to get to. i cracked open haynes, it dosen't look that hard to do. its not like im gonna be driving it anywhere soon. heh thanks guys

You might be able to get it out with the turn signal lens out, or maybe not. But as stated you can get it out through the wheel well

JUST TOOK MINE OFF TODAY. THE BUMPER WILL GIVE ENOUGH FOR YOU TO PLACE A SOCKET WITH AN EXTENSION TO GET TO THE BOLT.

is it just me or is that a ridiculous amount of oil to be found in there? i know the valve cover puts some oil back in the intake but geez. when i think about it, i imagine a coating on the inside of the intercooler not a pool of it

i have the haynes manual and all, and i cannot find the 2 bolts on either side to get the bumper off for the life of me.


you're right it is an ungodly amount of oil. I just had my head rebuilt, a new block and clutch put in, and my tranny was dropped as well. my t too small is 100% blown - needless to say, there is oil EVERYWHERE.

we borke off two sockets and an adapter friday trying to get a manifold bolt off, and my bud cant come backuntil tommorow with some shop tools to finish the job, so i figured during the downtime id clean my intercooler and piping out.

well that would explain it, ive heard just use paint thinner to clean it out. when i took mine off, the bumper was off although i did have to f with the piping thru the wheel well after it was all together cuz i thought i put the pipe on the IC good but i guess not
