I have a problem (obviously:D ) My car has been making a rattling sound for the past two days. At first I thought it was the exhaust pipes. But today, I took it around the block and it started jerking real bad, even with the clutch was fully depressed. Then, as Im driving at about 10mph the rear wheels lock up and the car can not move foward or backward!!! Eventually I got it home, driving in reverse. The only way the car would move is if I rode the clutch in reverse... if I depressed the clutch all the way, the car would stop moving instantly...

So, I jacked up the rear and unbolted the drive shaft, and the rear wheels move very smoothly, with no clunking or binding.

So, does anybody have any suggestions? Could this be the center diff? the transfer case? or something else??? please help!

-thanks

Na, definitely not the brakes. The car will rock back and forth as if it is in gear only it's in neutral. I had a frozen caliper when I bought the car and this is no frozen caliper, I wish it was though:(

I had the same sort of problem....it was a bearing in the transfer case.....it ended up being locked fully and i had to replace the entire thing...not fun

Yep, I checked it out and it is the t-case. Any body know if the dealer will replace it for free? I heard that the t-case recall was changed to include auto tranny cars ONLY. The dealer is closed on Sunday so I haven't had a chance to call them yet.

do a search on google for transfer case recall. you will find the number to mitsu or diamler chrysler headquarters. call that number and b!tch. they will replace it. this is the x-fer case recall that was a safety issue. You are lucky you were not on the freeway when this happened. You would have lost complete control of your car. It would have oput you in a 360 spin and most likely you would have caused a major accident and possibly cost you your life or another. Just call that number and b!tch. They will replace it if you b!tch enough
