can anyone tell me how to return on apex super afc after changing battery?

my battery has died, and been replaced but i can't get the apex super afc controller to display anything....the arrows light up though. Can someone tell me how to get it displaying stuff again? i believe this is making my car shut off instantly upon starting.

another thing: does the afc have memory? will i have to re set the data?

I hate to break it to you - but it sounds like the VFD is shot.

That's what happens to AFCs when they blow.

Check the connections just to be sure, though. You might just have a disconnected or shorted wire.

does this break the ecu? is there a way to just disengage the controller and have hte car start up? arg! onyl the batter drained from lights left on for a few hrs.. could that actually fry something?

No, but it's possible that the act of installing the battery itself may have fried it if the unit cycled on/off quickly (which is common when tightening down connectors on a new battery).

Any time I'm working on the electrical system, the first thing I always do is unplug my SAFC. These things are so sensitive it's rediculous.

The good news, I doubt it did anything to the ECU. If you reconnect the ECU MAF wire (there's a wire that's split into two and connected at two points on the SAFC wiring harness) it should run.

EDIT: If you have a 1G - the wire is blue with a green stripe, and is connected to an orange and a pink wire on the SAFC, then to the top row of the largest ECU connector.

The AFC does non-volatile, memory, meaning if power is cut, it shouldn't reset itself, but it can happen.

That is assuming the unit functions again.

That's EXACTLY what happened to me when my SAFC-I fried.

Q: SAFC/VAFC/AVCR: I just purchased and installed my unit. Unfortunately the VFD screen does not light up. The arrow keys do light up. What is the problem?

A: Although there can be many factors to this, there are three probable reasons for this situation.

1- During installation, the unit was either wired incorrectly or shorted. Electrical shorts can happen in an instant without any noticeable signs.

Please be careful. Once the unit has been shorted, there is nothing that A'PEX can do to repair the unit. It must be replaced or purchased again.

2- Make sure that both grounds have been properly connected.

3- Although rare, the units are mass produced in large quantities and defects can happen. If the steps above do not correct the situation, kindly repack the unit with all original components and return the unit to the dealer of purchase accompanied with original receipt (Required to process requests). Warranty claims for electronics must be made within 30 days of purchase.

damn..so i guess it's probably broken then. i donno how though, it was already like that before i took out/replaced the battery. the only thing that happened prior was the draining of the battery =( so i guess to make hte car run like a stock does i should follow what you said ?
