Removing piece of bolt thread out of head

Ok, i had this slight oil leak problem with my valve cover. It turns out that one of the bolts that is holding it down snapped off. The bolt itself is pretty thick, but the threaded tip on it is real thin. The threaded tip broke off and is in the head. This is not a major deal. My question is what is the best way to take out that little piece of thread? I thought i can try that screw removal bit, like at hardware stores, it may grab the metal on the threaded piece and take it out. I'd rather not drill the piece and get it out that way, i dont want to hit something else. It also seems possible to keep rotating the threaded end somehow and it can come out the bottom. The bolt goes into a metal piece that protrudes away from the head and it feels like theres a small opening under it. So there seems to be several possible ways. Has anybody had this problem before? Is there a special tool for this maybe? I wanted to find this out before doing anything and maybe doing damage. I just need to get an OEM bolt pretty much and its set. To me it didnt seem like a huge deal, just a snapped bolt, but i'd rather play it safe and not screw up the metal on the head there and end up paying for a new one. Thanks! As much as you don't want to. Go to Sears or somewhere like that and get the extractor set. Chances are if you own a DSM, this won't be the only bolt that breaks off. Plus if you're careful, it should be a snap to remove it.
