car stalls when put in gear

i start the car up and after a wee bit of hesitation it kicks over with no problem and idles find, as soon as i put in in reverse the RPM's drop to like 400-500 and stalls sometimes. Anybody know whats goin on

ha, thanks, its an auto ( feel badly for me) i'm thinking it has something to do with the idle control, but it only does it when its from a cold start, if i drive it for awhile then start it and put it in gear, theres no problems

does the motor do the fast idle routine when it's cold? gregorio

its a common 1g thing i guess
at least in the auto's it is
let it warm up

when i start it idles at around 1500 then drops about 30 seconds later to 800-900 if thats what you mean
