This article will explain how to remove and replace a passenger side door lock motor on a 1995-99 eclipse/talon. I was able to find one on ebay for about $20 compared to $200 from the dealer. Installation on this part can also get pretty expensive but if you have a few hours and some basic hand tools this will save you quite a bit of money.Step 1: Make sure window is rolled all the way up so that you can access door lock and door lock motor.Step 2: Disconnect battery, better safe than sorry.Step 3: Remove the interior door panel off of the door. There should be six screws total holding it on. You will need a phillips screwdriver to remove the screws, and a flat head screwdriver to remove the cover on the the handle part...
Recently I dropped another 6 bolt into a friends car after the previous 6 bolt installed developed rod knock. While at it i decided to install one of my own design CNC machined map sensor relocation pieces and clean up the wiring. It removed alot of unnecessary wiring from the engine harness to the firewall. The final product made it look like the 6 bolt engine came in the 2g from the assembly line. Let the before and after pictures tell the story. The wiring is now alot more solid and clean. The map sensor relocater can be found at dsmparts.com and the moving of the wires only required the cutting and extending of 1 wire. the rest were just pulled back out of the main harness and rewrapped seperatly. Took about 30 minutes to...
MSD DIS II Install on a 95 2G;Parts and toolsMSD DIS II and Tach AdaptorKnife or razor to cut the loom and tape.Various Metric SocketsElectrical tapeSolder + Solering IronShrink TubeTie Straps1)Verify you have everything and have ample time to complete this installation if you do not have time to finish it properly don't bother starting.2) Locate where you plan to mount the MSD DIS II box. I purchased mine from DSMJIM and it had a nifty bracket already installed to slide under your front strut tower brace mount. You will see it in the pictures.3)Disconnect the battery before starting and remove it if you wish to have a little more room.4)Now we need to locate your coil pack and coil...
Got that annoying grind on cold starts, or every time you start your car? As alot do, I use to. The car starts, so the starter can't be bad, right? Yep. I took mine to be tested and sure enough, it tested bad. Brought it home and decided to clean it. My car starts better than ever now. Here are the steps involved in cleaning it.1.) Remove the battery for easy access to the bolts. Go ahead and remove the air intake. Now under the intake manifold, you will see the starter. It's the only bulky item down there bolted to tranny. Go ahead and fit a socket to the bolts and remove them. Unclip the black electrical connecter coming off the harness. Pull the starter out by whatever means it takes.2.) take the wire harness off of the starter...
Not sure if this will help anyone, but who knows. I had a Saturn SL2 (sucked lol) and had a system in there. Well, totaled that, sold my headunit, and kept my amp and subs. I was thinking, there had to be a way to put subs on my stock system. Well, with the help of my brother and $25 I did it. No pictures because I don't feel like ripping apart my back seat and panels again, so I'll explain this as best as possible. The part you need is a Line Output Converter (LOC) http://www.crutchfield.com/S-QuO8Jv...?g=721&I=101PL2 I bought mine at bestbuy for $24.99 Basically it is a small box that has 4-6 wires coming out, 2 white (one has black stripe), 2 grey (one black stripe), then 2 brown (one black stripe). The white and grey ones will...
Start with the main battery cables. If you have a voltmeter you can measure the voltage drop from one end of a cable to it’s other end with everything turned on (first with engine off then running). There should be none (or less than 0.1 volt). If you suspect one of the cables you can jumper across it with another known good one (like a battery jumper cable) to see if problem goes away (or voltage drop decreases). Then remove the cables, clean both ends and places they attach to with sandpaper. Bend them along every inch to see if they feel cracked or old. If so replace them. Remember, even a 0.1 ohm resistance from a hairline crack, corrosion, or missing strands in a cable that's running 30 amps will drop 3 volts which will produce...
You cannot tell a fuse is ok by just looking at it! It may look fine but actually is blown with a hairline crack (or the fuse wire may be broken near the blade connection) that is not visible. I've lost count of how many hundreds of times people say their fuses are good when all they did was look at them for the obvious wire break and they actually are blown! By using a test light or multimeter you can find blown flat bladed type fuses without removing them. These fuses have 2 contacts on the top of them.Test light method: Turn the ignition on (to energize more circuits). Touch the test light from each fuse's contact to ground. If it lights on both, that fuse is good. If it lights on only one, that fuse is bad. If it doesn't light...
TO FIND A SHORT or battery drain, first switch off and disconnect the obvious devices (eg. taillights if blowing taillight fuse) to see if the fuse still blows or the battery current drain disappears. (See below "FOR THE CASE OF AN UNKNOWN BATTERY DRAIN" for more on how to detect a battery drain.) Also try disconnecting everything that is or may be on that fuse's circuit or anything suspicious or recently worked on that's electrical or not stock (eg. aftermarket alarm or radio). Disconnect anything electrical that doesn't work since it may be the problem. Examine and wiggle the wiring and connectors on the things you disconnect to see if they are frayed, broken, melted, wet, or touching other wires or metal (and while you're...
This is fairly short and simple. For wiring up your non-turbo 1G 4G63 to accomodate turbo injectors, you will first need to purchase a stock injector resistor pack. These usually go for $5-20CDN, depending on who you buy from. This is simple and is the most common cause of consern for turbo n/t-ers. They just don't like working with wiring.1. Open up the wire harness that runs to each injector. You will find 2 wires going to the plug on the injector. 2. Cut all the thick yellow wires running to EACH injector. 3. Take the white wire from the injector pack and connect it to just one of the wires you just cut. Make sure it is the one that runs to the car, not to the injector. The other 3 harness wires running to the car should be...
How to enable 2G Gauge Cluster fog light indicator. --------------------------------------------------- In the gauge cluster, there are several indicator lights that were never wired during production. One that interested me inparticular was the fog light indicator. This write-up is aimed at providing instructions on how to enable the use of this indicator light when the factory fog lights are turned on.
ok, first of all i would like to say that, i have been searching for way too long and i can't find any tutorial like this for 2g's, it's like none of us have avcr's for some reason all the 1g guys do. with that said, all the pictures go in order of steps. FIRST DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, and i just tried to upload the pics and the thing said they were too big, so if you guys need pics email me and i can hook you up.step 1: find the point where the hose from your actuator and your turbo housing meet, and take that t adapter off, follow the tube all the way to the stock solenoid and disconnnect errything that goes to it, and take taht out.step 2: connect one line coming from the housing hose, and one comming from the actuator to...
Parts needed: 1-DVD Case 1-Toggle Swtich 1-Fuse Link(As shown in images) 4-Speaker Crimp-on Connectors 2-Ring Crimp-on Wire Connectors(For chasis ground)Total = $4.54I got the 16AWG wire from a vacum cleaner that exploded and the toggle switch from someone.Any of you have some holes in your car that you think something was supposed to be there and isnt because of some odd reason. Well I have a solution for it. I had a hole in my center console and have speakers with neon lights. Thought , put a switch in that hole and make the lights able to turn on and off.The first thing that you should do is measure the hole. Then you should make a drawing of the width and heighth of the hole.Next you...
This article is to cover the major points in installing an EGT gauge on your 1g dsm. The 2g dsm installation is the exact same.If you want to install an EGT chances are that you already know what it does and different people want it for different reasons. I got this gauge mainly because I just installed a new motor and ecu and since I didn't have a datalogger at the time I invested in this setup. As we all know this is a very economical setup to make sure you are not running too hot internally.I got this setup for a very nice price ...the list of parts is below:*autometer lite 'pyrometer' gauge *autometer 2 gauge a-pillar pod *TRE EGT probe *Electrical wire (i forget what gauge wire i used) *and of course very important...
The A/F gauge, or "light show" like many of us like to call it could be accurate enough to have an idea of how rich/lean you are running your engine, although its not accurate enough to rely on it. Its been proven that there's nothing better than a WideBand O2 sensor, but if you did just like me and bought one of these autometer gauges this article tells you exactly how it works.Oxygen Sensors All oxygen sensors must be heated to at least 600° F before an accurate signal is produced. This is why when you first start your vehicle the signal climbs up slowly until it reaches operating temperature, and afterwards keeps bouncing from side to side. When the engine is at heavy load the monitor should indicate rich. At cruising load...
2g Horn Button FixIf you are like me and have had trouble with your horn buttons, this article is for you. The problem is the metal in the switch becomes corroded and causes intermittent or no contact whatsoever. So I decided to tear it apart, and take care of it. Seems cleaning it works just fine, so here’s what you’ll need:* 10mm Socket Wrench * Small Screwdriver * Contact Cleaner * Multi-meter with continuity check preferable.Just as a note, pencil erasers work good for cleaning contacts. This is actually what I used to get into the plastic pieces and it worked fine. So whatever you want to use to clean the contacts is up to you.The 1st step is taking off the airbag. Unplug the battery and let it sit for 5-10...
Your going to be hard wiring your radar detector using the power from your overhead light assembly. As with all electrical modification it's allways a good idea to disconnect the battery. All supplies are available at Radio Shack. Tools needed. A. Electrical pliers, wire strippers. B. Screw driver Phillips. C. Female Quick-Disconnects. 16-14AWG size 1/4". Quantity 2. D. Ring Tongues 14-16AWG size 1/4". Quantity 1.1. Remove outter trim piece. This just pops off. 2. Remove the two screws keeping the actual light assembly on. 3. Disconnect the wire connector to the light assembly. Set aside for now. 4. Remove wires from connector. Strip them about 1/2". 5. Your power cord for detector should also be stripped...
I just wanted to give some very helpful tips to avoid electrical hazards when wiring in a cd player, but these tips can be applied to other tasks such as illumination in performance gauges. Now, first things first. DO NOT USE WIRE NUTS FOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS IN AUTOMOBILES. Wire nuts are not intended for cars because of the excessive vibrations which can cause the nuts to fall off, leaving a nice exposed connection just waiting to blow a fuse or, in some extreme cases, damage to the car or electrical devices. Try using butt connectors or solder and tape for all connections. Now, when installing a radio and you don't have a harness or diagram, the first thing you do is identify the 12v+ constant, 12v+ acc, ground, and...
My reasons for doing this modification was with the addition of a GM Mas and translator I was having a shortage of underhood room, besides lack of space this was also for better weight distribution and my oem battery hold down was fubar. My solution was to relocate the battery. This was the way that I did my relocation, your parts/results may vary. To do this mod you should have the following. This is for a 1gb car as my switch location will be different than on a 1ga.Parts: 1. Moroso, or other NHRA approved Battery Box. Jeg's P/N 710-74050. 2. Moroso, or other NHRA approved Battery Disconnect Switch. Jeg's P/N 710-74101 3. Distribution blocks (3). I used a 4 fuse block and two single fuse blocks. I don't have P/N's for these as...
I specified 1GB because I have an 8 pin ignition harness plug, while some have a 6 pin. Check your ignition harness wiring before you attempt this install, as I am not responsible if you damage yourself, your turbo timer, or your car. This install was performed on a '92 Eagle Talon TSi AWD using a Blitz FATT Type-X turbo timer.Tools needed:- Wire strippers/cutters/crimpers - Volt meter/power finder - 16 gauge wire - 16 gauge wire taps - 16 gauge wire crimp connectors - Phillips and flathead screwdriver - Electrical tape - Razor blade or scissorsDisassembly:1). Begin by removing the 4 screws holding the lower steering column on. Remove the lower steering column.2). Remove the 3 screws holding the upper...
This installation was done in a 99 GST Spyder. I know for certain there are differences in the trunk part, but to my knowledge, the rest of the article should be completely applicable. I took the pictures a week after I installed it.I assume you have the following items: An amplifier. Amplifier power cables, remote lead cable, coaxial cables. A screwdriver. A pair of pliers.ABSOLUTE FIRST STEP: Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. You do not want to learn this lesson through experimentation.Power Now, you're going to want to insert the power cable through the grommet found by lifting the carpet up in front of the passenger seat. I took two pictures to show where it is, but it's really obvious...
Apexi AVCR Install in 1g ------------------------This install really isn't that difficult if you feel ok with tapping wires at your ECU, and in my opinion the hardest part is getting that horribly designed wiring harness threw the firewall. If you have not yet looked at the AVCR kit you've purchased now would be a good time.1. First off you need to find a place where you want to mount the AVCR display/control in your car. Several members of the forum make mounting brackets/kits that will allow you to mount them in several places. I simply put mine by the stereo and did a custom job.2. While you're playing with the cars interior it's time to pull out the stereo and side panels so you can get to the ECU's wiring. You're going...
Alright, i just wired my cd player in my car and i figured id let everyone know how to basically hard wire your cd player in your car. First off, take out your old stock radio and cut the connectors off from the car. Look at the connectors before you cut them off, you will see a few wires go to the same port in the connector, all of these wires after you cut them, tie them together with each other. These two sets are your front speakers. Your constant power from the car is a solid blue wire. Use a volt meter to find your power wires and if you cant find a ground, make your own. The Speaker Color Code as ive found in my 90 talon tsi is as follows: Black-Red stripe and White-Red stripe = Front Right Speaker. Yellow-Red stripe and...
Well, I apologize for the lack of pictures in this tutorial, but my digital camera was out of battery. This article is useful for those of us who feel we've already spent far too much money on a turbo timer itself, and don't want to tack on an additional $20 for a plug-n-play wiring harness. This article is for 2g dsm's, but 1g guys may also have luck with it.Your turbo timer (depending on the make and model; the one I used was the Apexi pen-style tt) should have three major wires connected to it: a 12v+ power source, an accessory power wire, and an ignition wire. First, identify these wires on your tt by reading the instruction booklet's diagrams (or if you have no choice, guess...red is typically 12v+, blue is usually acc...
To answer many of the questions about how to wire in an aftermarket head and use the dash tweeters W/O having to use the factory amp, I will post the wire colors on the infinity plug to facilitate bypassing the amp. You may inherit a car that has an aftermarket head and does not have the amp any more and need to rewire etc....Ideally you will have some type of crossover to protect the mid and tweeter in the front. Please note that the factory colors for the Rear and tweeter on each side are the same so you will need to "pop" the speakers with a 9v or drill battery to determine which set is which. If you do rewire, you will need to disconnect the wires from your headunit/ adapter harness, and instead feed them down to the...
