Member-submitted articles related to DSM electrical and wiring.
I'm in the process of wire tucking my Talon and I want to incorporate as many of my aftermarket accessories as possible into the OEM fuse box to clean things up. After some experimenting on my bench I figured out the OEM relay pin out so I can now use them for something else. These relays control things like Rad Fans, Fogs, Horn, etc. Since I no longer have any of these things, I wanted to find another use for the relays. Here's the relay in question. The pin outs.Hope this helps someone out.
I like many others experianced some electrical issues in my 2g. A few years back, my taillights/dash lights stared randomly turning on and off, with or without me in the car. It went away, but recently it hapened again and eventually the lights just stopped working. I spent hours ripping apart the interior, the trunk, bumper checking every possibility i could think of....to discover a MINESCULE break in the green/white wire in the engine bay harness, by the radiator I compiled a simple list to condense all the suggestions in other threads plus my own findings....***note this circuit carries power to the parking lights (tail, license plate, corner, bumper and dash) as well as the light "reminder" buzzer****also note, this write...
Discussion thread here : http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/410779-90-model-dead-tach.htmlThis fix has worked for several vehicles now but I must say that there is no way to know what kind of side effects this may have. I've talked to one person who's had this for 2 years, but he is the only one I know of. If you use this fix and you have issues afterwards, then post up here please. -------------------------------------------------So today Sep 19th, 2011, I have found what I've needed to know for many many days. And this is VERY good news for the 90 guys. This fix is so simple that it's mind boggling.Ways to fix it WITHOUT A NOISE FILTER.Items needed:3-4 inches of 18-22 gauge wire. Two MALE quick slide 22-18 gauge...
*****IMPORTANT***** Note that the wire color layout diagrams accompanying each picture are as seen FROM the CONTROL HARNESS SIDE of the connector with the release tab (for a male side connector) or locking notch (for a female side connector) on top. That is, you are looking at the wires going into the connector, OPPOSITE the side that is pictured. Like this: How to identify ECU pin numbers. *******************This is the ENGINE CONTROL harness. If you want information on the ENGINE COMPARTMENT harness, see: The 1990 Engine COMPARTMENT Wiring Harness. As we all know, the 1990 model year had many quirks to it when compared to the later model 1Gs. Because this was a single (and the first) year of the Eclipse/Talon/Laser trio...
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for anything done to your car/equipment. Use this information at your own risk. It is possible to damage components if you don't know what you are doing and don't use common sense. Keep in mind do these things at your own risk! That being said, lets get onto the matter at hand:This article explains how to remove connector pins from the ECU harness connectors (as well as other connectors.) You should note that a majority of the harness connectors employ replaceable pins. The reason for this article is to help keep wire cutting/splicing to a minimum, not to mention a cleaner, more professional look. Typical uses for removing pins from connectors includes: clutch cut wire install, and knock light...
[Note: Some of this gets very detailed, but don't worry about all the heavy detail stuff you don't understand if you don't want to (like accuracy, or what resistance you're measuring across compared to the meter's, or what the meter's loading is). Just understand the simple basics of how you connect the meter to measure voltage, resistance, and current.]It helps to think of electrical current flowing through a wire analogous to water flowing through a pipe. Voltage is the water pressure, resistance is the pipe diameter (larger diameter has less resistance and allows more water to flow), and current is the water itself (amount flowing).Voltage: Voltage is ALWAYS measured across a wire or component or can be at a point. If at a point...
Install a high flow cat or eliminate it all together? Tired of the check engine light? Did you try the spark plug non-fouler trick to no avail? Then build your own O2 sensor simulator.*note* You would be modifying your vehicle in a way the factory never intended. If something goes wrong and you mess something up, I am in no way responsible.First, the parts list: (all from Radio Shack)(1) 3" x 6" project enclosure (1) Universal perf board (cut it to fit the enclosure) (1) 271-1134 1m Ohm resistor (1) 272-1055 1.0 micro-farad metal film capacitor (2) 271-133 50 ohm 10 watt resistors (These are two packs. You need 4 resistors total)Step one: Remove your driver's seat and the center console.Step two: Locate the wire for the...
Here is a diagram showing how to route the spark plug wires from the coil pack to the cylinders.Special thanks to femmeDSM for making this diagram. Here is a link to a thread with more information and a discussion on the topic: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/maintenance-repairs/10465-firing-order-merged-5-7-a.html
This is a video of how to fix and trim your boots so you dont have ignition problems. I do not take credit for this video just making it easier for tuners to find.YouTube - Jafromobile's Channel
The below diagram and installation procedures were pulled from ECMLink's NLTS installation article but broken down a bit more, so people like me can understand them. If you haven't seen the ECMLink NLTS procedures just follow the link ---> 2g Clutch Wire Instructions If you still have questions and want more detailed pictures follow along and this article will take you through the install from start to finish. After I finish up with the installation instructions I will also talk about setting up your NLTS feature in ECMLink V3. *NOTE*: Use this 2g ECU pin out to refer to ALL wiring concerning the ECU harness. ---> 2g ECU pin out Edit Note: The wire cut/splice at the ECU in steps 7 & 13-16 can be eliminated by depinning pin...
This is how to get your reverse lights working in your 5-spd 95-99 gst/gsx with an auto engine harness installed. This is all possible from help from Gofer! Thanks again!!So first off you need to have the pigtail for the reverse switch. *The wiring colors may vary, my stock (97) wiring was Orange w/Blue stripe and black w/white stripe. The wiring color from a 95-96 pigtail was Green w/Yellow stripe and black w/white. ** The wires will need to have a spade connector on each end.Once you get the wires into the cabin, you will need to remove the radio bezel to get the the Large Blue connector behind the radio. With the male end of the Large Blue connector you will need to remove the plastics keeper on the back...
It is based on this articlehttp://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-electrical-wiring/329825-foglights-without-headlights.htmlbut when you do it like i did ,you will not need to remember to turn off your foglights separately . The foglights will furn on when you turn on the tail lights and they turn off when you furn off your tail lightsit is better because you dont have to worry to turn off your foglights separately everytime .thank you and Thx a lot to ("Gregory" http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-electrical-wiring/329825-foglights-without-headlights.html ) for GREAT article :D <br> <a href="http://s459.photobucket.com/albums/qq320/dawid4444/?action=view&current=DSC08505-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img...
Seeing is how this seems to be a popular question around the site I figured I would do a diagram for both the 1g and 2g DSMer's. This write-up will show you how to wire in your UEGO o2 sensor in place of an OEM o2 sensor to allow you to log it in ECMLink V3. The AEM UEGO has (4) wires coming out of the small connector, these are the wires you need to worry about since the other harness plugs directly in the back of the WB o2 sensor itself. Something to consider, before you follow the below wiring instructions, only use the WHITE wire if you plan on logging your UEGO in ECMLink V3. If you aren't ready to hook it up in ECMLink V3 DO NOT cut your o2 sensor wiring going into the ECU, you'll just use the RED and BLACK wires.Wired...
This write up was done using the Street Tuned Motorsports (STM) Fuel Pump Rewire kit, it comes with all the necessary hardware you'll need. Heres a quick link to the FP Rewire kit they sell STM FUEL PUMP REWIRE KITEven though the GS-T and GSX have different wiring going to the fuel pump the rewire is the same, depending on your car just follow the diagrams below. If you can't tell by the diagrams below where the wires tap into the relay heres a quick list.#30 (blue wire) - feed wire from battery. #87A (red wire) - NOT USED. #87 (yellow wire) - when cutting stock 12V pump wire, this is to the pump side. #86 (black wire) - when cutting stock 12V pump wire, this is to the car side. #85 (white wire) - chassis ground...
This is a write up on how to wire in a GM IAT (intake air temp) sensor in a 2g and logging it using dsmlink V3. If you want to make the switch to run a SD (speed density) setup but aren't sure how to wire in your IAT your in the right place. Since you'll also need to connect a MAP sensor to go SD you'll also want to read Wiring & Logging a AEM 3.5bar MAP Sensor if you haven't already.First you'll need to get a GM IAT sensor, harness, and a 3/8" NPT bung and have it welded into a UICP. ECMTuning sells it as a kit direct from their site, just click on this link. GM IAT sensor w/pigtail and 3/8 bungINSTALLATIONOnce you get the bung welded onto your UICP thread the sensor into it and tighten it down with a wrench, then...
This site helped me hook up every gauge I had. Even if you don't have an autometer gauge other brands are very similar. Just wanted to post this up for everyone it took me a while to come across it. Hope this helps. Auto Meter Instructions

Ok, this is a straight forward "How-To" on the replacement of the 1G injector clips for the much easier-to-use 2G injector plugs WITHOUT RE-WIRING!!!!Here the basic differences are noticable by the 1G having the wire clip to hold onto the injector, while the 2G doesn't, it uses (2) tension clips to hold them on. This is the basis for the whole project, just simple ease for the dsmer!Just a quick view of the plug(s) I cut from a 2G harness at the yard.First thing to do is use a small flathead screwdriver or a metal pick as I did, and just gently pry the gray clip off the back of the 2G plug from both sides. I found it much easier to release the single tab first, then the triple tab second, then it will just...
These are directions on how to wire an aftermarket alarm system into a 1g. The install vehicle is a 92 Laser AWD and the alarm i used was a Viper 350 Plus. I use a greddy turbo timer on my vehicle as well and will give directions on how to wire the alarm with and with/out the turbo timer. This article is intended only as a guide, I accept no responsibility for damage to you or your vehicle. If you are unsure after reading these instructions then I strongly advise you to take your car to a professional alarm installer.Tools Needed: Wire Strippers/cutters Phillips Screwdrivers Precision flat screwdriver 10mm Socket Soldering Iron Solder Electric Tape and/or Heat Gun and Shrink Tubing Multimeter Drill (depending on siren...
With this method, the factory wiring triggers a relay that supplies 12v directly to the fan, and the ECU controls the fan just like it did in stock form. To do this, cut the black and blue wires going to the fan as close to the fan as you can to give you the most room to work with. Then connect them to the relay as indicated in the diagram. The use of the relay allows a constant steady 12v power supply to the fan, similar to rewiring your fuel pump (read the VFAQ for info on what relay to get). As for the fuse, pick the amperage indicated in the documentation that came with whatever fan you are running. If you want to wire two fans to run at the same time, splice the black and blue wires (the ones that went to the stock fan) and run...
This applies only for 2Gs (1995-1999). If you are installing an aftermarket alarm and/or remote starter this should help you out. This should also help out those installing turbo timers. There are various diagrams available online, but a lot of them seem to be wrong, and most if not all are very vague. For a lot of us who like to do things ourselves it makes things difficult. So finally here is a more detailed and hopefully more accurate diagram for us. Enjoy! If you want to use your turbo timer with your aftermarket alarm, please read my entry on that here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-electrical-wiring/332597-wiring-aftermarket-alarm-turbo-timer-together-easy-way-no-cutting-relays.html**Always verify the wire by probing...
Alright guys. Well it seems like this is a common problem for many DSMers. You get a nice aftermarket alarm, and of course you have your nice $200 turbo timer you decided to put on your pretty much stock DSM with t25 that is water and oil cooled so turbo timing is not even really necessary and vented BOV and open downpipe. You manage to install both correctly, but there is a problem. You can't arm your alarm while timing down because chaos happens after the countdown of the turbo timer. Also it even unlocks your doors after countdown. What is going on?!?I've helped installed several aftermarket alarms on a few 2Gs, and I always search for this one really old post from another forum. I'm installing another one today, and I had to...
Summary:This article was written for those who have interest in running their foglights without running their headlights or running-lights in a 2g Mitsubishi Eclipse or Eagle Talon. The article is based off of a 2g, so I don't know if it is compatible with a 1g, or not. Please note:This mod still uses the factory foglight fuse, so your circuit is still protected. This mod still uses the factory foglight switch, so everything will remain very factory looking after the mod. After this mod, you need to remember to turn off your foglights separately just like how you turn off your headlights when you get out of your car. Your foglights will stay on even when the car is off and the key is removed unless you turn off the foglight...
My AEM C2DI decided it didn't want to work anymore. The C2DI was wired in without the factory Ignitor causing the car not to run when using the bypass plug. In order to fix this I decided to wire the Ignitor into the bypass plug.It was pretty simple if you know how to solder and crimp wires and what not.The C2DI uses a 12 PIN Deutsch connector with the following pin outs:Ign1 Input - White Ign2 Input - Green IgnOn +12v - Red Ign3 Input - Yellow Ign4 Input - Violet IgnOn +12v - Red + Coil 2 & 4 - Pink - Coil 4 - Gray - Coil 3 - Blue + Coil 1 & 3 - Tan - Coil 2 - Orange - Coil 1 - BrownThe Mitsubishi Ignitor (Power transistor) uses the following pin outs:OC2 - Blue/Black IB2 - Tan/Red GND - Black TACH...
