- Background
- I am the 2nd owner of this car. My dad bought it NEW back in '92. I ended up with it in 2001, and it was my daily driver until 2012 when I got my current car. It stayed with my father-in-law briefly while he was between vehicles, and it's been kind of sitting around for the better part of 3 years. I finally broke down and said I was going to get it running to sell it...you know the rest. "Well, I should really also fix that. Hey, if I fix this it will be much better to drive - I mean, sell. Right, sell. But, hey, would it really be that much money and time to get this thing back in shape? It's a great looking, fun car when it's in good repair." Once it was running, my 5-year old son started in with the "I don't want to sell this car! I love this car!" Well that did it. So here I am (though that's kind of a cop-out, because when he said that I instantly thought "damn, I DO love this car, don't I?).
My ultimate goal is to bring it to near-show quality, if possible, but with substantial modernization and modification, especially to the interior, and a few minor cosmetic touches to the exterior. I would love to clean up the engine and maybe drop a whole new block in at some point. I'm not going for power-crazy stuff, but I'd like to bring it into this decade by getting it to about 275 hp (not that the existing front diff can deal with that, but I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it...or torque steer over the side, as the case may be).
The vision in my head is a long way from how it looks in my driveway now, but I really want to make it work.
PS - Garry, I don't know if you read these forums, but you can shut up!! :-)
I know it's not a great idea, but I have to do it anyway!
