Background
Howsit everyone! After an extensive sabbatical from the DSM game, I am officially back. It took some convincing of the "other half" to allow me back.

Well... kinda! Does a '74 Dodge Colt with a 4g63t swap count? My previous cars were a 2g GSX 2.3 Stroker (walked and sold), and a bone stock 2g Talon AWD (T-boned at an intersection). Needless to say, I've had my headaches with these monsters, and yet I have not learned my lesson :p

The idea behind this build is to get back to the DSM roots. While everyone knows about the DSM automaker relationship, I like to think I'm taking it a step further. Pre 1g/2g dsm, there was the Galant. Well, at least that's what it was called in Japan. Actually, it was the Galant Colt GTO. Its US counterpart was simply the Colt. This Galant Colt GTO or just Colt, is arguably THE car that sparked the collaboration between these automakers that would eventually evolve into what we've known as DSM :)

So, with the Galant/Colt being the, for the lack of a better phrase, "OG" DSM (in my opinion)... I am doing this build to grant it that respect... amongst other personal nostalgic, sentimental, and government regulation (ahmmmm smog) reasons ;) This will be an extensive feat, and I will be needing any and all help as I tunnel down this rabbit hole. So please stay tuned to hear plenty of technical, questionable, WTF, STFU, and noob moments!

How about some more photos of this well preserved blast from the past. Most cars on this site are no older than 1990, so this harkens to a whole different era. I really enjoy the lines of this series, as well as the far more boxy-spacecraft look of the later 70’s series colts. The next time they use that name it will be on an E.V.

Mock assembly of what I've brainstormed to be the new front drivetrain/suspension. Consists of 2g 23 Spline M/T, 1g/2ga Intermediate/Half/Jack Shaft, 1g CV Axles, 2g Front Hub Assy.
  1. The 1g axles seem to mesh just fine with the 2g hub assy with no obvious fitment/clearance issues.
  2. Using the 1g axles with the rest of the 2g hardware results in what looks like the 1g front track width, which is what the goal was.
  3. Next step is to figure out how to attain the same result for the rear track.
    • I currently have a 3000gt vr-4 rear lsd and axles.
    • I'm leaning towards matching the 2g rear hub assy.
    • The question is now how to piece together the rear drivetrain to measure as close to the 1g rear track width.
      • I'm thinking of a custom axle assembly that consists of 3000gt inner cups, 2g spindles, and a 1g length axle to connect the two.
      • I'm not sure how simple the last part (1g length axle) will fit into the equation, may very likely be a custom machined part. Still gathering knowledge/brainstorming on this one.
